I cannot stand Jack Riewoldt. What an egotistical show-pony -- everything's always gotta be about him.

Dont care he is a champion who we would have loved to have playing for us 6 goals in yr 300th phenomenal effort

Lazy, and really really dumb.

That is underselling peanuts.

Good result tonight.

If we go 4-2 for the rest of the year, we sow up a top 3 spot and avoid a week 1 interstate trip.

The destiny is well and truly in our own hands and we only have ourselves to blame if we drop games to one or more of Hawthorn, GC , West coast or Adelaide.

Yes he is - and he has lots of company.

Tonight James Brayshaw described the way in which Harris Andrews knocked the ball over the boundary line as being "laconic".

BT, in his infinite wisdom, agreed. "Yes that was laconic".

Brayshaw is a serial offender - could someone please direct him to dictionary.com. He may well stop embarrassing himself should he learn the meaning of the word.

Guy hasn't won the hardball when a match was on the line in his career. At least 2/3 of his career goals must have been in junk-time.

I take from your comments you don't like him, and he isn't my favourite by a long stretch, but I think this is way off the mark.

Richmond did us a favour this week and thankyou. However they will come a cropper against geelong and no longer be relevant for the year. If we finish 3rd does not matter as it will be against bulldogs or that rubbish from geelong. Don't want to play the bears or Port at their home grounds.

Yeah, that’s right… he only kicked those six goals and played a brilliant 300th game, because he wanted all of the attention ??

What a ridiculous comment! The guy is an absolute star!

You don’t watch a lot of games other than Dees games, do you.

Look sure, it was a dumb comment. He's a great player, but I'm still entitled to dislike the guy. Joel Selwood's a gun too, but I can't stand him either!

His off-field persona just puts me off. I still remember his comments last year decrying how outrageous it was that players were asked to take a modest paycut to keep the AFL afloat, while coaches and support staff were losing their jobs entirely (not to mention how tone-deaf it was at a time when so many ordinary people were losing jobs and businesses were going broke). Really sullied my opinion of the guy, that's all.

riewoldt has been, and remains, one of the best key forwards in the competition for a long, long time

we picked frawley the pick before he was selected, i seem to recall?

Yes, and for a while we thought we were the winners in that one.

Maybe the compo pick from Frawley helps balance it a bit.

Yep that's fair enough

I'll be happy if Brisbane finish third or fourth. They lack leadership, pace and midfield depth. We have them easily covered.

As an aside I'd love McCluggage to announce he wants to return to Victoria and nominate the Dees. Great player.

You misspelt muppet. What a [censored] that bloke is.

A lot of results have gone our way over the last couple of rounds. We have a real opportunity to lock in a top two or top four spot.

He took a couple big marks early in the 1st Grand Final win.
Missed the shots but he was huge getting them going.
Earned abit of my respect that game.

Fair enough; I didn’t have any issue with your opinion of him as an individual, but thought your targeting of his abilities as a player were way off the mark.

Right result for us last night. Reckon us Cats and Doggies will finish top 3 now and avoid the inter-state qualifying final (although who knows where and even when we'll be playing finals).

Riewoldt has had a stellar career. 300 games and 700+ goals speaks for itself. He deserved to play and celebrate his great achievement at the G last night

He's also a sook and a crybaby and has played in one of the most dislikeable teams ever to grace the game (and as for his advice to Kozzie earlier in the season - he can stick it)

What we have to worry about is reduced seating capacity due to Covid may see a final played in Geelong , so we definitely don’t want them finishing above us.

Great day of footy coming up. We've an interest in all the games.

saints are playing well so hopefully can get up against port.

Suns are in great touch and are a chance to spring a surprise against the doggies. If they can get the job done i might even change my mind about disbanding them

A crunching collision with Mitch Robinson. Totally accidental. Kidney injuries can be very serious. Could be missing a long time.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
