The MCC's email during the week (5 July '21) seemed to imply, pending government directives, that there will be no walk up seats for MCC members to this year's GF. This means that if MCC members (I'm a MCC/MFC member) miss out on tickets in the usual GF seating ballot, lining up prior to the game will not be an option. (In 2000, I arrived in the line Friday afternoon.) It seems to me that GF attendance for MCC members is now 'luck of the draw' rather than guaranteed (if one is happy to line up). Is that the take of others on the situation?

1. Yes but how is that different to any other game this year? No walk ups allowed.

2. Depending on the attendance cap, the ballot might contain up to double the usual number of tickets.

3. Start lobbying now for special consideration, if we make the GF,  for MCC/MFC members who have waited so long.

4. Those who attended the GF in 1964 should be guaranteed a seat if we make the GF (me).

Go dees.

Simple answer but obviously more expensive, buy an mfc membership with grand final guarantee.

Will covid cause club allocations to be reduced? It wouldn't surprise me if, in 2021, your guaranteed GF ticket is not guaranteed.

Point 4.   Me too.

It's just the way it is now unfortunately.

I think the value of an MCC membership has diminished over the last number of years anyway.

Despite  what the Prez says in the letter, the only real value in an MCC membership is going to games including finals.

I used to like walking up to any game.

Even pre Covid it was getting harder to do unless I stood, which I tended to do more of.

I think there would be uproar in this case.

In 2019 competing clubs got an allocation of 17k for members.

I can't imagine that more than 5-7k of those would be sold as GF Guarantee, it's too risky otherwise.

So unless we are have capacity of 25k or less, I think we'll be fine.

Agree with this rjay. C-19 has changed everything. I might really be reconsidering my membership.

I will sue the MCC. Who would buy a membership if there was no GF guarantee?

I could not find anything that looks like a guarantee either AS. Lots of weasel words, but no guarantee of a ticket into the GF.

As someone residing in Sydney who paid for the GF Guarantee for my son and myself, I’m wondering what will happen if borders are closed and we cannot use them. It’s a bit of a worry.

I had my crystal ball out in April and could see this being the case - that the MCC would be fully-balleted for the Grand Final and Melbourne a reasonable chance of making the Grand Final. I upgraded by MCC-MFC membership from executive to premium, paying for the guaranteed GF ticket.

I know someone else that tried doing the same thing a week or so after. The MFC told them those memberships were sold out.

I'm fairly sure we will have no problem getting a GF ticket with an MCC-MFC premium membership with guaranteed access to purchase a grand final ticket if the ballot does not work...

I’m pretty sure that they were only available at the start of the season.

Thanks NS. Big chance I'm F*&*&d then. 30 years of coughing up membership fees to the MCC waiting for this year to arrive. And big chance won't get in.

I’m sure many are feel the same. I’m a rusted on supporter who has been going to watch us regularly since I’ve moved back Melbourne from the US in 2003. Dragging my kids along through the Daniher years, never knowing what sort of year it would be. Inexplicably I continued thru the Neeld disaster, the Bailey tragedy and so on.
Hopes raised and hopes dashed. Travis Johnston,  Col sylvia, Brock McLean, Jack Watts, Tom $cully and Jack Trengove
football crowds of sometimes as low as 11,000.
The struggle to get finals tickets in the MCC in 2018 was insane. Suddenly everyone rediscovered their profound affection for the dees and needed to be there. Fair enough and great to have fans turn up. But really there should be an advantage given to those who have joined the MFC year after year and attended matches year after year to finals tickets.

Anyone with an MFC membership thats paid for a grand final guarantee would get a ticket. Even if we are not at full allocation for the grand final, those members would get first priority as we do every week when tickets go on sale (if capacity is limited to 20,000 I doubt the grand final will be played in Victoria anyway!). They cannot sell you these memberships if seating allocation exceeds what a competing club gets on grand final day. It is why we are one of the few clubs in the competition that still have those memberships available. Most clubs have sold out of their allocation a long long time ago.

edit: the above applies to MFC membership only. I have no idea what the deal with the MCC is.

I emailed the MCC a month or two ago asking about the plan for finals and they said there will be no preference given to MCC members who are also fans of competing teams in the ballot system (assuming finals are also fully ticketed). I promptly upgraded to GF guarantee. Contact the club - they may still have availability

In the past few years I've been lucky in the ballot & our family jokes that the year Melbourne get there we will miss out.

Yeah I have thought about it. But not going to stress out until we are there. It would be typical that I've sat through Richmond's flags but will miss ours

See my earlier post. Those upgrades are no longer available unfortunately. I just checked the MFC website and it also says they are now unavailable.

Imo the gf is for theatre goers these days. And whilst i would love to be there the one to get to is the prelim.

Best atmosphere and full of rusted on fans. Will be more dissappointed if i miss that by a mile.

MFC and MCC members should get priority if Dees are in GF. I’d be really annoyed to miss out.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
