We're kicking to a designated spot as if we had three talls.

THIS!

No point in waiting for a positive comment during the game call from these sheet callers.

NO forward structure but ahead.
Ridiculous.

Merett 21 uncontested possessions. Shut him down.

But regroup & have a big 2nd half where hopefully we kick straight & roll home

We have to shut him down I agree.

It would help if his direct opponent around the ground (Brayshaw) completed some form of defensive gut running.  I saw Merrett compete and win a ball on the wing and run forward whilst Brayshaw hung back.  Merrett hit a team mate on the forward flank on the chest, fan past for the handball receive and nearly lace a player at full forward all whilst Gus was 70m away.

All the great defensive work not being rewarded in our forward 50. Frustrating to watch. ?

Game day threads are always a head scratcher.

Oliver has continued what he started last week at half time. Take the game on, dont be afraid to take risks to generate run.

When it doesnt work it looks terrible as he gets caught. But at least he is taking the game on the way the coach wants.

I understand that some supporters will attack him for it when it doesnt come off and claim him saviour when it does.

demons getting ahead of themselves picking a small forward line. Fritch has done well and so has mcDonald but they have always had another tall taking the oppositions big men as well. The next half will show what sort of team we are , are we fighters and worthy of being on top of the ladder or are we back to failing against weak opposition as we did against adelaide and collingwood.

Heat of the moment comments ought to be taken with a grain of salt.

Anyone else think that goal kicked by Jones was already in the front row when his boot connected? What a joke to show a blurred ball on the replay as apposed to the real time. Blatant effing cheating.

Clearly a goal.

Kozzie needs recalibration at Casey

Do we put him into the middle to shadow Merret?

Leave Harnes in there also.

Tracc to HF.  Viney relieves Tracc at HF and plays a bit of time in the middle on occasions ...Kozzie goes forward again when he does

Kozzie needs to pass the ball off more often especially when having set shots from an angle or a long way out.

Well I must be in the minority I don’t think Ben Brown would have made the slightest bit of difference so far.

I thought we lifted in the 2nd when Oliver started to dominate.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
