But with what he said it seems it’s going to be around Gosch’s

Brilliant!  We are picking ourselves up from the doldrums, and momentum is building steadily on a number of key fronts. Soon we will be the envy of many other clubs, including several whose mantle we are well placed to steal. Go Dees!

Is there no coincidence that as soon as Bartlett is gone we've all of a sudden made significant traction with our home base...

 

The most bullish I've heard our CEO or recent Presidents with respect to the home base question. Upgrading Gosh's to approx MCG dimensions is going to be helpful, but full home base resolution would be epic. Can't wait. 

Sobering news about the 1.8-mil direct hit from loss of QB and NT games, plus estimated half-mil hit due to softening membership numbers on the back of recent COVID outbreak. 

He was bullish but he did give some outs and kick that can down the road 6 months…

Good to hear we didn’t need AFL assistance to survive last year. Well done to those that gave.

Have the goal posts on what constitutes a home base changed.  Is it now just a ground extension and a few bells and whistles? we will have to wait and see.

Missing out on Alice and QB games is rotten luck. I'm expecting an ugly looking set of numbers at the end of this year.

I received an email yesterday asking for similar this year rpfc. Hardly a surprise after the list revenue of the last two games.

I thought the last part of Pert's comments regarding AFL assistance was interesting. Any assistance would come with "a whole lot of conditions, conditions we do not want and would not be in the Club's best interests".  I wonder what the conditions were/are and if those Clubs still getting assistance are feeling the weight of AFL house on their back?

I think they would be spend in your FD and finding efficiencies where we want to be more profligate. It’s not even about competitive edge, it’s the standards that other clubs can meet and we need to stick fat to spending money on. 

I'm a fan of the club doing this for us. I think it's great.

The home base issue he split into two, the training ground (announcement in the next few weeks) and then the home base (still a while away it seems).

The $1.8M loss from the NT and QB games really hurts.

The club has mentioned the importance, to us, of being unassisted before.

For example, in December when we announced our 2020 financial result, the club said "“There is no doubt that we are disappointed to be announcing a loss. However, as a Club, we have made some significant steps in eliminating our debt, and our strong balance sheet enabled us to remain an AFL ‘unassisted Club’. This was important, as it allows us to continue to make independent decisions regarding football and administration strategies"

I'm not sure that's the right use of that word but I understand where you're coming from. It really is the old adage about the big clubs getting bigger and more profitable. I do think we are on the right path to bridge the gap between "the haves and the have nots" .

I think the unassisted part is a big part of reclaiming our pride, when we were at our worst we were going to the AFL on a regular basis cap in hand and desperate. It was necessary but it was a shocking look, made us look extremely weak but worse than that it made us look like we were useless and a burden on the competition. 

We’ve copped the worst luck of anyone on the financial side of things regarding COVID, it sucks but I feel like the attitude is, “suck it up and move on”. I think if we can we might try to move one of our MCG games later in the year to Alice. Perhaps negotiate another replacement game with another club.

The interesting thing about upgrading Gosch's to MCG size is why would this be announced in a few weeks with State Govt funding which has already been announced if there's an immediate chance that MFC will have to move elsewhere if they fail to reach agreement to build the facilities there. It seems to me to be a very solid indication that the facilities will ultimately happen around the  Goschs precinct.

I meant it. I don’t know if the extravagance of the bigger teams having 15 coaches is actually getting a ROI but we have to look to compete in that area with an Yze and with a Williams so that we look like we are investing in the players and their chances to succeed.

Gosh's paddock being mcg size, and presumably rebuilt in terms of coverage and drainage, is critical. Arguably the most important part of the project given how important they have said Casey has been.

Two elite standard ovals gives them the option of regualarly training centrally in the city and do closed sessions, tactical sessions at Casey perhaps weekly or fortnightly (and use tbe indoor kicking facility)

I would have like to of known if we will be getting an NT game later in the year as is rumored and roughly how much we may have maid up playing QB at the SCG.

What the club also needs is more a permanent Office for the Football club. So that we are not scattered all over the place.

Is it even feasible for Goschs's Paddock to be "expanded" to become MCG-sized? Is there the space to do that?

And in this extended negative period in the clubs history was exacerbated by the fact that the AFL decided to bring in 2 expansion clubs at the lowest Footballing part of the clubs history. Making it incredibly hard to get access to the AFL's best young talent, making it harder for a club at absolute rock bottom to rebound upwards and get the point we are now.

(Given we shot ourselves in the foot at crucial stages of  the late 2000's early 2010's) The dilution of the talent pool you could argue effected clubs like us Carlton and to a lesser extent Essendon & Obviously Richmond who (through smart recruiting held their nerve and the rest is history) incredibly badly. Where as the Hawks peaked and topped up and enjoyed an extended dynasty.
