Disgraceful.
When you think we can’t be more putrid we find anew level.

What a poor effort
Looks like pick 4 in the draft. Let’s hope the club doesn’t stuff up that selection
We’re a joke

Seriously, why be shocked? We have some of the weakest payers both physically and mentally in the competition. Feel sorry for Steele. He looked so shattered in the end.

I tell ya. It’s much better when you stop giving a s***. I have and honestly, I seriously don’t care if they lose. In fact in the last qtr I was willing Adelaide to win.
Simply because I don’t want any more half arsed, lame,,[censored] poor wins that cover up just what a farkin shambles of a club we are.
Root and branch changes required. Until then they can [censored] off.

They were a better team when he was in it last year. Must be a long term injury.

They were a better team last year irrespective of whether Kent was there or not. The fact is that Kent has never really cemented a place even when he  was fit. Just one of those not quite near players. A bit like a lot on their list

Yes we were done over by the maggots in the last few plays, but we should never have allowed them back into range after mid Q4, with our superior fitness.
IMO the defence looked disorganized … missed Salem more than realized.
And overall a team only needs to be a little bit off and … bingo.
Just hope we have learned from the experience (Goody’s “learnings”) and don’t let it happen again.

Will need to be right on song on Monday.

Colonwood will either be flat as a pancake in which case we should be relentless to boost %, or really switched on and will take a full team effort to overcome

And, yes … Adelaide very ordinary tonight.

Fully agree. We need to ready for Collingwood on Monday

Sounds like another football forum I frequent.

How come Dean Kent can't get a game for that rabble?

Kents suffering effects of concussion.

That game reminds me of our 2019 loss to Adelaide in Darwin. Up by 5 or 6 goals in the 3rd qtr and then couldn’t hit the side of barn door.

Saints are definitely having a Melbourne esque 2019 season.

In no way am I having a go at you personally dees189227, but I am getting sick of the clarko is a genius stuff.

He is a great coach and has clearly done well with all the flags, but I love how they beat the swans and he is a genius (you said it, but also all the papers and radio have run with it today).

Just wondering how much of a genius he has been for the remainder of the games they have played this year?

Just a little gripe of mine.

Sydney were flatter than a Lebanese bread. No run or spark at all.

There has been some games of horrible quality this weekend ☹

Got to hand it to Clarko. he is a genius they way he plans for games. As some of the media said clarko has had 10 days to plan for this and how to beat Sydney. It is a good win.

Jai Newcombe 12 tackles in his first game after getting taken in the mid season draft a few weeks ago. There is a kid that just wants to play footy and will grab his chance and make the most of his opportunity.

Clarko wasn’t a genius when he lost to the Suns the week before.

Very depressing for Saints supporters. That last quarter so poor on many levels. Ratten has his work cut out.

Ernest - all of us here must feel their pain.  We have been through as bad, or worse.

I presume injured?
Ratten said this week they had 25 fit players on the list so could just fill a team sheet. He was happy they could name 4 emergencies.

No doubt injured, again.
No found someone could find out how many games he has played out if how many possibles in his chequered career.  Best guess 30-30%?

Why don't the commentators call out throws? Are they directed to turn a blind eye to this, or are they just stupid? (Or both?)

Definitely both - some more in one category, some in others, but all meet qualifying standard in both categories

I hope the games are of higher quality today. Yesterdays fare was pretty ordinary

Weird game, St.Kilda dominating a hopeless Crows contrived to become even more hopeless themselves in the second half.

Fancy this early and some Clubs definitely just going through the motions, Lucky RD 13 eh.

The New media beat ups will be Flag 2021 doesn't count because of all the upheavals just wait...

nice to see the aints pullout all stops and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory......outstanding all round team effort

and once again the umps kissed the crows' proverbials

Could be argued that Saints are having our 2019. Finals the year before and then talked up big by the media. Come into the year chock full of expectations and then have an unmitigated run of bad luck through injuries. Confidence is shot. I reckon they will bounce back in ‘22. Ratten can coach.

They didn't do so last year, so why would they do it this year?... unless of course you subscribe to the AFL and Media hate the Dees conspiracy.

Yesterdays Crows/Saints game is the fourth game result corrupted by poor late umpires decision making. That free paid to Thilthorpe in the goal square is unbelievable. There is no way that was free kick. That was the kind of spoil seen a dozens of times every game and it’s just play on.

Yes that was a real head scratcher.

but but but he stopped him from marking it! that's VERBOTEN!!

truly one of the more bizarre reasons given by a maggot for some time

But I heard over summer here that Ratten is a coaching genius and St.Kilda have zoomed past us with their inspired recruiting, despite the fact that we beat them last year?

Just listened to an interview with Jeff Kennett. Was asked about Alistair Clarkson and, as always, made it all about Jeff. I’ve seen this skill within the workplace but he’s a master. It was apparent that he wanted to lessen Clarkson’s achievements and talk up his own (overstated) efforts.

Let’s hope he stays in control of the Hawthorn FC.
Apologies for slightly left field comment

I think about the only player they are missing is Cam Guthrie who is closing on 29 and probably replaces 22yo Brad Close so they can go older still ...

Saints had their chances and blew it, just like we did.

That free kick in the goal square thou, was that worse than the deliberate none call in our game?

The umpires explanation “you prevented  him from marking? WTF

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
