Our 2 finals wins in 2018 were decent statements as was our defeat of Richmond on Anzac Eve.

Just sayin...

The finals wins were statements for sure, but I never felt we were a shot of making the GF in 2018, let alone winning it.

Beating the Tigers this year isn't such a big deal, plenty of teams have. They aren't even top 8 right now.

This year is different, and this game is different. 1st vs 2nd, winner walks away as the team to beat in 2021. Will we continue to rise this year or slowly taper away? I feel like this game is going to tell us a lot

Home game for dogs today, I don’t think a loss  means we can’t win the flag. If we get beaten badly today and again when we play at the g later in the year then maybe, but even then it’s the finals that count every other game is the same 4 points. Unless we go off the deep end we are almost certain to finish top 4 probably top 2 regardless of tonight’s result

I'm more [censored] off our local footy got canned for the week up here on the border region then I care for tonight's game..

Tonight's game is a bit meh for me.

A top of the table all-Vic clash on Friday night is a bit "meh"? You must be one of those weirdos who revels in the 440pm Sunday Twilight fixtures against Freo or Gold Coast ?

I've been waiting for this one since we knocked off the Tigers, stoked it's finally here. Can't wait for the bounce and hope the players are locked in tonight. If we are I think our pressure and defense can get them. Their defense looks trash on paper, just need to create enough opportunity for our forwards and don't let Daniel off the leash. Kozzie, ANB and Spargo will be crucial.

D-Day is finally here.
Time to bring the forken heat.

I'd add that 'heat' means frontal pressure.

Journos, trying to clamber over each other to come up with the next clickbait headline, were saying last week that the Crows had worked out a way to unpick our defense. They did, and they didn't.

They did find out a way to beat May and Lever. But put bluntly, anyone could beat May and Lever with the quality of ball Adelaide gave their forwards.

Spray and bomb kicks into the forward fifty is amenable to their game style. Eyes down, bullet passes into the forward fifty to leading power forwards is detrimental to any backline. Hell, even Bruce Doull and Geoff Southby or Chris Langford and Garry Ayres would have struggled against what the Crows were allowed to produce coming into attack.

Thus, tackles need to stick, and one percenters need to be made as well as second efforts. Leave that out and what the Crows did will look like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.

What jumper tonight? A mainly white probably works best against the dogs. I cannot imagine any red and blue combination that would not clash with the dogs.

We usually have the normal jumper with the redback against the Dogs

Yes one of Kozzie, Spargo, ANB or Melk needs to lock down on Daniel. He is their distributor out of the back line.

Whoever is playing the distribution role out of the centre needs to be shut down similarly, usually Macrae and Bont rotating.

Are we playing tonite ? Doesn't seem so.

yes we are

umpires will pay 12 soft free kicks in last 2 minutes (under the new afl 2 minute rule enforcement) and we'll lose by less than a kick

anyone know if the Casey v Bulldogs match at Whitten Oval on Sunday is going ahead?

thanks

All VFL and VFLW games are off mate

Won't we be wearing our indigenous jumper, this week?

The tough part will be mentally being in the zone for this game.  in less than a week we've gone from full crowds and zero masks to full lockdown, the game will not be on at all, a dogs player might have covid, a dees player might have covid etc.

very hard to focus.  even some of us fans have lost some interest so you can imagine if the players are thinking they might be away from their young families for months after this game

The coaches have a big role to play getting the boys focused

The bit with the old bloke at the cemetery?  That was quite sad.

Nah, AFL won't let us - too much of a clash with the Doggies jumper?

Now I know how Port supporters feel.  Later, Im going to bash myself in the head with a cricket bat to understand how they think.

Could be LH it is all too hard for me. The AFL have so many rounds now that have themes I never know. The game has past me by.

Seriously?

Our jumper is nearly all red and theirs is a mid range blue.

This is the start of the Sir Doug Nicholls round - doesn't make sense to not wear it - no clash whatsoever!

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
