Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Will be interesting to see the various vaccination levels required for the four phase plan.

The phases are logical but I worry that we may not meet the vax targets. If that happens some tough love may be required.

Assuming the first phase which we are now in goes until December 1 (optimistic I think) how many lockdowns and brder closures will we see.

The only way we meet the vaccination targets is if/when we get a whole heap of Pfizer or Moderna

You will not get to high levels of vaccinations with AZ being the main vaccine available. Rightly or wrongly, that vaccine has been dragged through the mud. It is too late now. We need big supply of one of the other vaccines so we can get moving.

Well it's all gone horribly wrong in Gladlands now and they're talking about giving up and going full UK with virus - except without the vaccine coverage.

Expect total lockdown of NSW from all other  states for the foreseeable future.

The shortage in Victoria is because they used their allocation for first doses and didn't keep enough for the second dose.  Poor planning or deliberate?  Who knows but it was of their own making.

I think it's too late. The people of Sydney (and NSW) have been fed a consistent diet of anti-authoritarianism for so long via 2GB and the Murdoch press that I don't trust the Sydney population to stick to the lockdown and mask rules the way people in other Australian States and territories have done. That may mean AFL games won't be held in Sydney for quite some time yet as the other State and Territories may not allow teams that play there to return home without quarantine.

About to get very interesting up there:

"We're trying damned hard at the moment to make sure that we can use every effort to suppress that virus, and right now is a critical time," Health Minister Brad Hazzard said yesterday.

"If the individuals that we need don't hear Dr Chant's message and don't respond, then at some point we're going to move to a stage where we're going to have to accept that the virus has a life which will continue in the community."

Took the plunge and got my first Astra jab. Happy to report no side effects.

Looks like NSW government are in a full philosophical battle. Pro and anti lockdown factions facing off. If it breaks anti lockdown (i don't think it will) then it'll nigh on impossible to prevent spread to other states. The season will be in jeopardy. AFL HQ will be sweating buckets righ now i reckon.

The problem in NSW is that their lockdown is only a half lockdown. Retail is open. You can go wherever you want. It's not a lockdown that is effective. And so it won't work, or it will take months to work.

As someone who is married to a small business owner who nearly lost their company of 10 years to Covid restrictions, I understand where NSW is coming from. I applaud them for caring about the economy and people's businesses as much as the health of the community. But when things are so clearly out of hand, and yet the consistent message coming out of the government is so relaxed, than of course the situation is going to get worse before it gets better.

Going early and going hard is the way to do it. You'd think they would learn from Victoria. The lockdown capital of Australia.

38 new cases in NSW today is not good news for the rest of the country ... the delta varient could easily escape across their border as there are any number of exemptions being handed out to those returning to other States

And we know this disease can show up days later after people have previously tested negative

Of course, if NSW moves away from the elimination strategy of the virus and moves towards containment then all hell could break loose

FWIW I believe they'll stay on the elimination strategy but that will probably mean stricter lockdown methods and they could be in lockdown for quite some time

But there shouldn't be any point scoring or finger pointing as we're only 1 case away from the outbreak happening again in any of the other States ... then more lockdowns

Actually, as far as anti-authoritarianism goes, Melbourne was probably the worst as was evident in the demonstrations and actions of certain individuals early on in the piece, so I can't really agree with that part of your comment.  We have had another 42 cases recorded today (40 community transmissions), but hopefully the message is getting through, as when I've had to go out for food supplies, I have noticed that probably 99% of the people are masked up, which restores my faith in people a little.

My biggest issue with the powers that be is that Glad took so long to respond with a lockdown, particularly as she had the Victorian experience to draw upon; and never mind all of those private school kids getting Pfizer'd in what was *cough* a mistake... money talks.

I got my first AZ jab at the beginning of June and will get my second at the end of August... apart from a little local soreness in my arm, I experienced no side affects at all.  I noticed that they (the powers that be) are only just starting to talk about it now, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out why they haven't encouraged companies to do as they do with the flu jab, and have employees vaccinated on their premises; it's in their own interest to have all employees vaccinated, from a productivity perspective.

From a personal position, I'm getting tired of watching my band's gigs getting cancelled... it's like a slow motion game of dominoes, where each lockdown extension announcement sees one or two more events cancelled.  July was a pretty full month, and now, barring a miracle, it's pretty much a write-off!

Great to hear.

Have my second AZ jab booked for 3 weeks time. Just got notice from the clinic that my appontment had been moved forward by two hours to almost first thing. I suspect that they are getting nowhere near enough bookings to justify a half day or more so they're bunching them first up.

Hope that it's not people cancelling their second dose. That would be really dumb.

It's tough

Singapore have been trying to wipe it out with some rather heavy restrictions for well over a month now. It's improving and they're now down from 30 plus cases a day to single digits and of course they're around 40% vaccinated.

I appreciate your comments and on reflection I was probably mistaken in suggesting the people of Sydney were more anti-authoritarian than elsewhere in the country. And you are quite right that Melblurnians have themselves not all covered themselves in glory.

Nevertheless, I still think the Sydney-based media is a huge problem for not just Sydney, but the whole country.

It's because all the scare mongering about AZ has reduced the demand DJ. I cannot wait to get my second Jan in 3 weeks.

people complain about % fully vaccinated but forget that mandatory 12 week wait after 1st is a loooong time

anyway, i'd prefer more people on 1st jab rather than being on 2nd

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
