Coinjar vs Coinspot next week (doesn't affect selections of course - does it?... - but couldn't find anywhere else to note this curiosity...)

If all are fit bring in Sparrow, Salem, Viney and Ben Brown to stretch the Dogs backline

outs - Harmes, Jetta, Weid, Melksham

Posted

Weid really stunk up the joint, would be nice to get some consistent games into him but he probably can’t stay on that performance.

Do people really think Brown instead of Weideman would have made a difference today? Weed at least put some pressure on unlike Brown would have. I’d keep the fwd line the same.

Wied doesn’t offer enough and doesn’t even get the best defender, at least with brown in he takes the number one tall so tmac gets 2 and Jackson 3 ect. Plus brown has a proven record of kicking goals over many years and wied doesn’t. A few tackles from wied isn’t enough to make up for that as neither provide much defensive pressure. If that’s the reasoning for keeping weid in then I’d play neither. Bring in Mitch Brown or play another midsize up fwd. The talls are primarily there to kick goals, take marks and create opportunities for our smalls to crumb.

Salem sadly missed and will be a shoe in if fit, for Nev Jetta who sadly looks totally cooked.
Jordan’s first bad game - maybe needs a breather, with Sparrow as the obvious replacement (though hasn’t had a run for a while …. bloody VFL rubbish scheduling).
I would give  Weed one more chance - absolutely crap delivery tonight and I can’t see that BBBBB would have done more as there was no delivery to a lead. Frittata, IMVHO, should be dropped before Weed - 2 shockers in a row

Swimming against the tide here and backing the Weid to have a ripper next Friday night.

In: Viney (if ready), Salem

Out: Melksham, Jetta

We need to bring the Richmond game mindset on Friday night. I don’t think we can play that way every week but expect some real intensity and pressure next Friday night.
glad we had a positive night with clearances not that it availed to much.
I have no doubt we will turn up - will be a cracking game.

Boy oh boy Earl. Our forward line today was supposed to stretch a young and inexperienced Crow backline. But I see we only had a couple playing in forwards as Spargo, ANB,  Weids plus TMac did next to nothing.

Agree with Sparrow and BBB in and hope Salem is fit. Doubt Viney will play. Harmes to stay and Jetta unfortunately has played his last game with Weids and Melk also out. We played crap away from home and only lost by a point so something to take out but we need to improve about 25% to be in with a chance against the Dogs.

Fritsch kicked 3 last week, not sure how that’s a shocker. It’s a damm sight more than wied has shown so far this year. Perhaps if weid commanded a better defender like Brown would it would allow Fritsch to have more impact since he would get the 3rd or 4th defender.

Jordan still played his role but we need Viney back ASAP, I’d still rather see Melksham out before Jordan at least he tackles and brings pressure. Hunt should also be in the crosshairs his output has dropped off over the last few weeks.

Really disappointed with weid. I thought it was the right decision this week over Brown but he was no good. We win this game with Brown capitalising on our centre clearance work.

I’m going to say something that will probably annoy a few…

If Weideman’s name was Smith he’d struggle to still be on the list. He showed very little last year when given a good chunk of the year to prove himself, and he’s just got no intensity into his game as he’s developed. He’s too skilled for the VFL, but lacks the fire to be an AFL player. Eventually you’ve got to take your chance and I don’t think he’s capable. Brown should replace him.

Jordan looks tired. Sparrow to replace him.
Salem for Jetta.

In the raw aftermath my current view is Jetta, Melksham and Weid out, Salem, Viney/Sparrow and B Brown in.

Jetta must go, Salem if fit but if not then someone else.

We can’t play both of Melksham and Fritsch because both are too inconsistent with forward pressure. I’d drop Melksham and replace with Viney if fit, if not Sparrow.

If Viney is fit then I’m interested in looking to make room for Sparrow anyway. He plays a pressure game forward of centre. Maybe Jordon or Harmes makes way.

And I’d replace Weideman with B Brown. I wasn’t comfortable with that call this week and I’d like to see Brown stretch the Dogs defence on a fast track.

I got the sense that Viney had a set back in rehab and won’t be back until after bye round - Salem should be back next week according to Goodwin.

Mark my words we will win this game it's the wake up call that we needed and the Bulldogs had a soft game. They won't know what hit them after playing against rubbish all night.

IN: VINEY, SALEM, B.BROWN

OUT: JETTA, MELKSHAM, WEIDEMAN.

This will be the best line up we put out all year. Watch out dogs.

Right now it's tempting to just say "I'll be very happy to get the best we can get from Wied in a trade" and be done with it.; however neither McDonald nor Brown are spring chickens and we've got no one coming up under them other than the Wied reailly.

We all have loser's goggles on big time right now, but certainly Brown comes in for Wied next week and Wiedeman will need to do some great stuff in the VFL to get another look in for a while, injuries pending.

Brown has to play. He is a Marvel specialist and the best way to expose the dogs is to stretch their shaky defense. It’s their only downfall.

I would drop Fritsch who plays tall and is a defensive liability and bring in Brown. We know it’ll be dry and I still don’t think we have our forward set up right. Weideman on his last chance coz he’s really annoying me with his soft attack of the contest. 19 year old Jackson with one arm was going harder.

His last chance was tonight. Got to be dropped. Can't drop Fritsch even though he is a liability when he's not on his game.

In-Zach Merrett, pay him what he wants,he would bring so much class around the contest to the Demons.

Oh Ok,ins for next week, sorry had a few too many Scotches.

BBB-He has only played 3 games by round 10,he needs to play every game possible before the finals, some games he won't kick any.

Salem,Viney

Out-Weid,i don't care if he's traded,he's not AFL standard.

Jetta

Jordan,turns it over so much

Winner of Friday night takes top spot,Game On.

At least Treloar is out for next week. That is a big loss for the Dogs! Ben Brown has to come back. Mitch Brown to come in too. Maybe Nathan Jones too or Salem in preference if he is available. Drop Petty, Weideman, and Frisch. I would give Melksham another go. I believe he has a big ego and will play well on the big stage of Friday night Footy. I also think Jetta’s experience will be invaluable against the Dogs. Jordan deserves another go. He has physicality and I would back him to rise to the challenge.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
