It’s been reported in Sydney that some of the coaches were at same cafe same day... hold onto your hats

They will be required to isolate until they return a negative result. They were there in the same time period according to the reports. Hat has blown completely away.......

Block them off at Swan Street?

You'd have to start doing that from the intersection at Church St onwards...otherwise you wouldn't have a prayer.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire and his assistants are awaiting the result of COVID-19 tests after visiting a Moore Park cafe on Monday in the same timeframe as a man who was infectious with the virus.

It comes as players and staff from the Sydney Roosters were also sent for testing, putting this weekend’s AFL and NRL fixtures on a knife’s edge.

When I was in a spot where someone tested positive back in feb I wasn't allowed to return to work until 14 days. I had to self isolate and get a test on day 1 and day 11.

This is just another curve ball thrown

jesus, what are the odds of the swans coaches being at that exact same cafe on the same day?

Covid can go [censored] itself. Actually it does self-replicate so it even has that covered!

This is what I don't get; I hear this as a rule - perhaps only in some jurisdictions? -  but "...awaiting the results of COVID-19 tests..." in the Sydney coaches case implies they only need a negative test (and no isolation meanwhile??) for full steam ahead for Saturday! If your experience - as experienced by many others, evidently - were to apply, Saturday night was off the minute they walked into that cafe

So I guess Longmire and his staff will be working from home on Saturday night??

How Melbourne is it that on the cusp of a great season COVID returns to ruin everything.

Someone has to say it, then: We are Premiers

On the serious side, though, if the competition were to return to the horrors of last year, with hubbing, etc, by all accounts we would be one of the better adapters to it. Last year's hubbing seems to get a lot of credit for where the team is now as a bonded unit.

Given the Roosters (NRL) were also in the same cafe, I'm sure our game will still go ahead fine. The NSW gov't and the NRL will do whatever they can to continue on as normal, so it'll look weak on the AFLs part if they don't go ahead as normal. Not saying I agree with any of that, but it's how it will play out.

The Age reports that Longmire and Co only need to test negative and they'll be all good.

If they had to self isolate for 14 days despite testing negative then our game wouldn't be going ahead I wouldn't think.

When you next get cold and flu like symptoms remember to go to as many shops, bars, cafes, parks etc as you possibly can, particularly while you are most infectious.

NSW has succesfully contained covid "outbreaks" without any lockdowns before and will again. If it happened here we would be in a state of meltdowns. Play the game as normal.

Not to mention every single BBQ store in the Greater Sydney area.

Hopefully it's only a hypothetical, but would the AFL require the Swans to play if the players were OK to do so but the senior coach was not? I would have thought so...it's no different from the Senior Coach being ill as we saw with Clarkson a few years ago when Bolton took over.

Brora Rangers who play in the Highland League in Scotland have just been awarded the league title on goal difference from my home town team Fraserburgh (grrrr) despite having played just three games of a thirty four game season.

Should covid derail the AFL season again then we should be afforded the same courtesy. ?

Good, game on.

Shouldn’t they Still have to isolate for 14 days. Haven’t returned travelers tested negative on day 1 or 2 then positive later on. Some even on day 11. Protocols seem different for every situation.

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
