Oliver, Salem now Petracca

Absolutely fantastic news, the faith these guys are showing in the club, the coaches and each other warms my heart

Let's get some success and bring the cup home where it belongs

Gawn, McDonald, Viney, Salem, and Trac all lifers  ? so happy

I like this quote from the article @dazzledavey36 posted 'Petracca was committed to staying on a long-term arrangement and did not want to eek out every last dollar from Melbourne to the detriment of his teammates.'

That is what it’s all about. Making room for your Teammates…

PJ and Roosy deserve some respect out of all this.
The Club was almost dead when PJ walked in

Holy [censored] [censored]!

Tom Browne's report pretty much was based around other clubs saying they've asked about Petracca and his manager has said 'he's not interested'.

Personally I reckon there's probably a lot more to do to complete a deal. Petracca will want to stay and the club will have a rough ball park of the money he's worth but after that there's so many factors on how to get the deal done.

The Dogs right now are negotiating with Bont who is 1.0001 to stay and to get a huge deal, but they are working through all sorts of factors with the structure.

There's a long way between Petracca indicating he's happy to stay and the club indicating a ball park figure and everything getting signed and sealed.

Tom Browne irritates me with his hyped up substance free reporting.

I watched the story a few times. Browne hasn't added a shred of real information to what already existed on this forum days ago, which is excellent btw @goodwindees thanks heaps.

The $$ figure and terms are in the written story saying "as much as" and "as long as" so just guessing what is a ball park number. The other info is easily stirred up or created, like other clubs interested and asking questions.

Tom Morris reckons he's confirmed details  -  and added substantial info  -  suggesting he has a reliable source. Or perhaps he knows @goodwindees

A question... Haas the contract been signed as yet or ha there been any official word that it is 100% certain?

It's official until it's proved not to be official ... mfc is strategically leaking to channel 7 with its larger audience, not the first time

This is Goodwin more than anything now..

I'm a bit over Roosy still getting kudos. He left 5 years ago. Yet nothing on Goodwin whos created the environment for these players to want to stay and sign long term. This got nothing to do with Paul Roos or Peter Jackson.

People need to move on from Paul Roos and Give Goodwin the credit he deserves.

His time with us was a bit overrated imo.

This afternoon the Club tabled an offer to CP that if accepted would essentially make him a Demon for life.

Stay alert as the offer is so attractive, we might get a prompt acceptance.

Well played sir.
Never thought he would sign for so long.

I'm definitely not having a crack at Paddy, but here's a photo of seemingly two young blokes with the world at their feet. And yet by the hand of fate one is about to hopefully hit paydirt tomorrow, and the other has just put another hurdle in front of his luckless life.

Pretty sure he didn't mean "scream out each dollar in fear".

Without Roos, we wouldn’t be here. He put the Foundations back in the ground, with PJ.

His time with us wasn’t overrated at all

(people have short memories sometimes)

As a total aside - this is one of the worst lit photos in the history of photography. They look like 2 cardboard cut outs shot on 2 different days and superimposed onto the Docklands at the incorrect scale. It’s so bad it can only be real, as anybody trying to fake it would think ‘nah, that looks [censored]’.

Goodwins gone through much more adversity then Roos did with us. Goodwins had his own challanges and rebuilt the list back up again. Without Goodwin, Oliver, Salem and Petracca are looking at new clubs.

Roos got what he came for and that was the $$. This whole notion of the club wouldn't be here without him is actually laughable.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
