Having no crowd at Marvel will save us from the media giving us grief about 12K people turning up for the game.  Early game on a sunday at Docklands with the roof closed (whilst 24 and sunny outside), north home game.  not many will rock up anyway

I live in Hobart and agree 100%. I hate the ground. It's a nice place to watch the cricket but terrible for football. I know that sounds odd, but there are a tonne of reasons. 

Having lived in Melbourne for a number of years and a frequent visitor to the MCG, i'm staggered how bad the Hobart stadium is. You would think that everyone involved with the stadium admin or day to day operations had never even been to the MCG once. It's why some of us get upset when the Melbourne based supporters dont bother going to the Marvel games.

I was looking forward to seeing the team play with my family but will likely come up to Melbourne and be very happy to visit Marvel.

It works out great for the dees as North play in Hobart well.

If North returns negative tests all round, then we play here in front of a crowd if, but only if, Tasmania says they're not allowed in. If they're allowed in then we go to Tassie and the crowd situation depends on the Tasmanian government.

There was no crowd at Optus Stadium because of the Perth lockdown, not because of North.

Cwood were not in Perth ( I am certain ) during red zone period. They flew out last Friday week or arrived home on Sat.week.

Lockdown just ended in Perth.

I wonder if that now tips the scales towards Hobart?

Despite the headline the game will go ahead at 1.10 pm Sunday /covid-chaos-kangaroos-demons-clash-in-hobart-in-doubt The only question is Hobart or Marvel.

While sympathetic to the Demon Tassie based fans if it is moved to Victoria, I'm just pleased it happens this week and not postponed giving (taking) our bye to be wedged in somewhere later in the season.

If I were the Tasmanian government I would post their four game contract with North up on Gumtree. If they use their Top Ad feature there's a chance they could still offload it before the weekend.

Does make you wonder what economic benefit a game like this would bring to the State.

In 2019 when North weren't bad the average crowd at Hobart was just over 10k for an AFL  match.

Will they beat 7k this weekend?

Last year there were very good reasons why AFL couldn't be played in Tassie.  But not this time. 

If the Tassie gov't chooses to lock the Roos out, they should still pay the Roos the money.  Its not the Roos fault if their premier can't assess risk.

The uncertainty of the fixture will also mean less fans travel from Victoria to watch the game and book accommodation. I've already cancelled my flights for that reason and will put the credit towards another interstate game later in the year.

It's 100% about optics. The election is this weekend.

I suspect the government will be concerned about having one rule for Tasmanians and another for an AFL side.

If Tasmanians who were in Perth in the relevant period aren't allowed in, I expect North won't be either.

If the entire North entourage tested Negative, once back in Victoria, I don’t see what the problem is. 
Sorting out all this Covid tracing would be one serious nightmare....

Mrs DW and I are taking a mini break of 5 days down there and are going regardless and I don't see the difference in going to the Salamanca Market on Saturday morning compared to attending a footy match.

Definitely the optics.  That is why I think they should still pay North the money.

I don't know if you know given you're a Hobart local, but any idea why they play at Belrieve and not North Hobart Oval? Much better ground for viewing AFL from what I'm led to believe.

Too small both in ground size and crowd capacity. Bellerive is where the state gov’t elected to spend all their money on upgrades on, so it’s the one with all the big, modern facilities.

North Hobart looks exactly the same as it did when I was a kid watching footy there in the 90s. Great memories having a kick on the ground at half time.  I’d love to watch the MFC play there more than anything, but it’s not going to happen.

Hobart forecast for Sunday  -  22 degrees , partly cloudy.

Could be great conditions for us to pile on 25+ goals.

No offence to you personally and not to detail the thread but I suspect the health advice assesses risk than internet commenters 

fair point on compo - same goes for bluefest but why you’d run a music festival without pandemic insurance (it doesn’t exist so perhaps that tells you how the actuaries view the risk-it’s not insureable)
