I see the VFL season kicks off next week with Casey's first game scheduled from Sunday at 12:05pm away at Box Hill.

I am from the other side of town, so was hoping for some advice from those out East about whether they think it is logistically possible to watch the Casey game and then catch the train into the G in time for Dees at 3:20pm.

About time the players got a real hit out in a competitive match.

So its Casey playing at noon and the Dee-Hawks at 3 20.   Perfect Sunday afternoon of footy.

2:37 train from Laburnum gets you to Richmond at 3:03.

In theory you could catch the 2:47 to 3:13 and sprint to the G if you've got seats closer to Richmond and just catch the bounce.

Same question about whether you can sprint from the South East corner of Box Hill if that gate is open across Whitehorse road to Laburnum to cut that time down too!

Overall I think the likely answer is if the quarters drag on over 30 minutes and the game takes 2 hours and 40 minutes you might have to either skip the last 10 minutes or be slightly late for the bounce at the G.

Cheers, this matches up with my research.

I reckon to get to the G before the bounce going to have to be leaving the Casey game early in the last quarter.

Casey will be well in front by 3 quarter time so plenty of time to leave early into the last quarter.

Bring a skateboard with you and you’ll be fine.

Thinking of heading with my chair along so any details would be welcome.

I assume MFC membership gets me free admission as in earlier years.

If KC can give us the player numbers and possibly the team when available that would be great.

Box Hill was the site of the Weid's big VFL breakout game so let's hope he can repeat it.

Get off at Box Hill and take the 279 bus. Goes straight past box hill football ground and has a stop out the front.

An interesting conundrum. Pakhenam line trains this weeekend will be running buses from westall to clayton so I usually go to belgrave to get the train when this stuff happens.  Would have to leave at 3/4 time probably to get the first bounce at the G and make my way up to level which will take 20 mins. Might consider it though.

Worth going to see Brown, Weed, Bowey, Laurie, Rosman, VDB, Bedford, Daw, Lockhart, Chandler, Smith

should be a strong team

If I go to watch the game at Box Hill, this is what I'll be doing.

The VFL game is also live on 7, so I guess could try watching last quarter via 7+ app whilst on my way to the G

Appreciating this thread! (wearing the preferred navy blue, too...)

Thanks for doing the research work guys.  I'm walking distance from Box Hill oval and have a ticket to the game at the G.  Stoked to know about the Casey game because it comes around here only once/year and usually it clashes with a game at the G or some other commitment.

As I recall, it used to be a $10 entrance fee, regardless of Dees m'ship.  I think that our free entry only applies at Casey.

I'll be with the horde heading to Laburnum to get to the G on time.  I'm due up high in Ponsford and my sprinting days are behind me, so 3/4 time leaving VFL seems a good option.

And for those who remember the great egg and bacon rolls sagas, I can also tell you that the food at Box Hill, while really quite good, is nothing on the egg and bacon rolls at Casey.

There is a bar inside the stand on the wing for purchase of liquid refreshment.  If I piffed the tinnies far enough, I could almost hit my own recycling bin.  But they'd have to be full tinnies to get the distance, so that'll never happen.

Good to see it will be live so I can settle in to watch it while the youngest naps, then I can head over to a hawks mates house and smash his Holgate Brewery beers for the big game.

Interesting that the VFL fixture has been based on the AFL aligned teams playing on the same day as the AFL team play.

Assume it was requested by the clubs to provide synch between the levels but given they play at different venues it is another knock on the VFL comp crowdwise.

Ripper news, this double telecast! We are going to see, in succession, Casey and then the AFL game against the Hawks. Demon supporters have much to glean from both sides - particularly at this point of the season. Recoveries from injuries, depth of form, present and future challenges and potentials, mongrel pride and its contagion across 'our' two teams, all including an opportunity to expand out insights into the team we love - the Mighty Demons!

Big weekend, good opposition, both a great chance for sewing the ragged hem of a footy season ahead.

I'd love to see the return of the 'Reserves' teams playing before the 'Firsts' team at the same ground, same day. The atmospheric build-up to the main game was always a super part of a day '...at the footy...'

Lucky bugger. I am stuck in Adelaide for the w/end ... telecast is on for both games, I think... but a very poor second best. Would love to watch and travel between the two venues, can of beer in hand ....

Heaven help Box Hill, I'd reckon. Hope we can generate and sustain some real mongrel.

It already sounds like a pilgrims' trek between two games; such are our loyalties. 'Carna Red'nBlues!

Fantastic stuff.   All eyes on Big Benny Brown (and a few others).

This doube-header, as an act of some programmer's generosity, is a gift too valuable to actually believe. Particularly for Demon supporters.

Bottle of Scotch about to be opened and lotsa ice. My Clan scotch - Talisker - (Isle of Skye) , just perfect. Donald where's your troosers?

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
