Going to Canberra at Easter for the GWS game. Accommodation booked and paid for. Car serviced and ready to go. Regularly checking the Ticketmaster site for game tickets. Call from my sister this morning to tell me that tickets had been on sale since last Thursday!ย She discovered this on the GWS website. Followed the GWS links to find only limited seats remaining, but thankfully snagged some (at $68 each!). Follow up searches revealed that there was access to tickets through the MFC site, but not on the Ticketmaster site.

This raises a few questions for me. Firstly, I thought ticket sales for each round were scheduled to begin at 9.00am on the Monday preceding each round, not on a Thursday four days earlier. Secondly, why were MFC members not notified by email that tickets were on sale, particularly if they were not going to be available from Ticketmaster? Thirdly, why are tickets so expensive? My seats are "Category 2", so not even the "best" available. Smells like a rip off to me. But I guess that I should be glad that I obtained tickets at all given the lack of communication from the club.

ย

The club posted info about this on 11th March.

Round 3 - GWS Giants v Melbourne - Manuka Oval

Away member pre-sale opens 9am on Thursday 25 March via Ticketek.

Tickets will then open to the public at 12:00pm the same day.

Given that it is an Easter Sunday game I wouldn't think the crowd would be huge by any means.

It has a seating capacity of 13.5k and another 2k standing (if allowed) and the ACT allows 100% capacity

Posted where? I'm complaining about the lack of email notification. And why are some games only on Ticketmaster and some only on Ticketek? - very confusing IMHO.

Additional question.

I got an email for my daughter's membership. Two in fact; one saying they were on sale and one saying the early access was delayed.

Not sure why she got one and others didn't.

Edit: now I think of it, the email may have been for 'local' supporters I.e. Canberra and NSW based.

My sister is a Canberra member and received no such emails.

That has nothing to do with the clubs, it's out of their control.

Hmm. Not sure then, because I definitely got two emails.

I'm just irritated that the Canberra game is at 6pm.

First - why would you schedule a game in Canberra in March for dusk?ย  Temperatures will drop 3 degrees a quarter!

Second - anyone traveling to Canberra from Sydney (let alone further away) will have to line up accommodation overnight unless they want to be pushing past midnight to get home and it is entirely impossible without your own car.

Ah well, I guess they just figured it would be a game for Canberra locals to go to with not much capacity beyond that given the Covid limitations.

Was posted on the website, the link was in my reply to you. Given the amount of groundwork you put in with booking accommodation, servicing your car etc, it doesn't seem too crazy to perhaps jump on the club website or google info about tickets while doing all that, bit unfair to put it all on the club for not doing everything for you.

By the sounds of it, they've sent an EDM to the NSW/ACT member database rather than everyone. Potentially this is due to lack of available tickets as well as maybe not encouraging people to travel interstate given the unpredictable situation around borders right now (just ask the Lions).

Everyone seems pretty quick to jump on the club about anything and everything in this area when often there's info already available online. With the cuts to club staff maybe we need to change our expectaions around how much we need to organize ourselves.

Fair comment but do you agree that previous advice was that tickets would go on sale from the Monday before each round? Given that advice, why would I be googling for tickets at any time before that?ย

We are MCC/MFC members so I suspect someone forgot to include this (substantial) category of members in the mailout!

you should send an email to club outlining your situation

Sad but true. It is 100% about what media wants.

Yeah that's a fair point mate I can see how that's the impression you would have. The club did put out info though via the website and sounds like a few emails to specific databases. I guess what I'm saying is; post-COVID, staff reductions, ever changing restrictions etc it's a bit of a new world for footy-going and we might have to all be more proactive than we have in the past just to get to games.

Don't worry, I will! After no games last year, I want to go to every game this year, including interstate games. Can't afford to be left out of the loop re tickets!

Stadiums have their own deals with the ticketing agencies. So anything MCG is Ticketek and anything Docklands is Ticketmaster (or vice versa - I'm confused...)

I assume it's similar interstate, scg may be Ticketek and Manuka Ticketmaster

That is strange. Canberra-based member here and as a few others have posted we got an email barrage about ticketing.

I think it's because she's an MCC/MFC member.

A cynic might suggest that it's been planned this way to boost accommodation sales in Canberra. I'm not that cynical, though. I agree with SWYL that the timing is likely to be Foxtel driven.

True dat. If you're not in my inbox, you don't exist.

Email EDMs are so easy to get right.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chancesโ€”plenty of themโ€”but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Portโ€™s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
