It’s an ok team until you hit the forwardline. I worry about the non-Langdon wing too.
Thank god May is playing. At least our backline and on ball brigade look very strong.

Correct. More than a big question mark over Jetta as well. We have about 6 players in the side that really are not up to afl standard. Our forward line is a joke. I would pefer to see Hore, Zanker and scott acroos hf than those three. Lets hope McDonald can prove me wrong. Jackson is not ready for FF in any way even on a part time basis. He should do a lot of rucking, especially in second half as that sems to be his strength. Fritch is going to have to play well.

Jones , Jetta, Tomlinson, Spargo, ANB and TMAC. Give me a break.

Harmes on the wing. Good grief.

He’s in the midfield for Christ sake.

I’m looking at the trio on the ball and thinking who plays sweeper at centre bounces?

We’ve got contested ball beasts all over the place.
Get the method right and it doesn’t matter who does.

How the hell does spargo get a game, the bloke is lucky to even kick further than 30m

This will be a break out game for me, I just feel it in my finely honed bones.

All true ,but harmes needs to be  in the middle ,blocking and bashing in

The Lost at Selection crazies are out early. Barring one or two minor changes, it is pretty much as good as we can be without Viney, Weed, brown, Hibberd, Melksham etc

defence looks good but I worry about Hunt back there. His defending and concentration does not give me confidence. Perhaps he will play on the wing?

i expect Swallow to play a role maybe on Ryan or someone we want to negate.
chandler my guess for the sub

i get Harmes is not ideal but I don’t think baker has done enough to play. Harmes is an upgrade imo. Or maybe Hunt or Tomo play there.

Absolutely gobsmacked that Chandler misses out.

Who needs a young hungry Chandler when you have Nathan Jones zipping around the forward line applying elite pressure

I love your training reports pickett, but .........

Well let me say this, just take a look at Charlie Spargo stats in his last 4 Senior games and get back to me. What does he offer?? If you say defensive pressure I would say

1 Isnt a primary forwards role to kick goals?

2 His "defensive pressure" last week was non existent

Give me Chandler and Bowey and Bailey Laurie anyday

Thats not all Chunky and Nev would want to play well ! I hope they do but father time is ticking

you would play a little kid like Bowey, the big boys would eat him up,he's 2years away from being an afl player

Bowey will play games this year because

- he is not slow and

- can hit targets

Harmes on the wing is a strange one. Baker didn't nail down the spot down so let's see how he goes

Otherwise its the best available to us

Congrats Clayton Oliver on 100 games. Great effort.

Teams never line up as stated

It's the balance of the forward line that worries me, BRFE.

I love Jonesy but I can't think of another side that throws a slow, old bloke in its forward line.

We play a forward half game style. We need to be overloading on small, fast blokes.

No one forced Jones out of his half forward role in the two games we saw. I would have played an extra small with Chandler as well, particularly if Pickett plays more wing time as expected but had no doubt that Jones would play on the two games played. Someone will need to go past Jones for a spot as he will do enough to maintain it until they do.

Id play Bowey and Chandler before Spargo! Its a no Brainer

No, it’s a brainer. Spargo is a young developing  fwd. he took steps last year and started scoring more. He is already a very good tackler and great kick inside 50.

he more than deserves a start. Bowey has no runs on the board and needs to earn a game at Casey. With 4+ senior players out we need to limit debutants

Spargo getting a game on his last weeks terrible performance, says a lot about our options and lack of improvement. Meanwhile Chandler and Bowey miss out

Shocking selections

Surely Bowey has to earn his spot.  He didn’t show enough to be a walk up start. You don’t just give a bloke a game because he was our first pick in the draft.  As for Spargo improved last year and he wasn’t alone in his average performance against the Dogs.

When Spargo is in you have to worry about losing he's a burden to the team.

His kicks over 35m you can count on one hand.

He's honestly terrible. I'm sure he's a great bloke but oscar mcdonald would offer more in the forward pocket

It's genuinely worrying that some people think that the line-up will be where the players take the field tomorrow.

No surprises with team selection imho.  Good to see Sparrow and Jordon get a run; the competition for spots in the midfield will be tough with Viney coming back for Round 2.

Don't get the hate for Spargo. I think with no Melksham available he and (a much improved user in) ANB are our best available options for delivering the ball effectively inside 50.

Would have had Chandler in ahead of Jordon though on balance for mine.

No need for you to express that opinion anymore - it is understood

Can you just let it rest mate. We get it, you hate Spargo, but there's no need to make posts every 5 minutes about it.

Or at least be constructive in some kind of way.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
