Alex Neal-Bullen Awarded Scholarship

On the Melbourne Football Club website is an interesting interview with ANB and Kavisha Di Petro of aflplayers.com.au about him being awarded one of the Torrens University scholarships.

He began a Bachelor of Teaching when he first started at uni, focusing on special education and disability studies. The passion and interest in working with people living with disability came from his maternal grandmother Cheryl (Neal) who was a professional jockey injured in a race fall which left her a paraplegic. Growing up with her in his life led him down the path he is following today.

Nice to read about a football player who wants to contribute to society instead of being on the front page of the paper because of a scandal !!

Well done, Alex. Congratulations and good luck.

ANB  is a down to earth kid good on him at least he has a life after football something he will enjoy studying to teach people with disabilities and help them achieve what they want in life.

Respect.

My nephews are special needs. Their carers and educators are amazing people. Not many have the passion, aptitude or temperament to work in this area so hats off to you ANB. I hope you have a long and rewarding career.

He sounds like a genuinely good fella off the field.

And his season last year wasn't as bad as a lot of people made it out to be. Should be in contention for round 1 and the match simulation that I saw a couple of weeks back would back that up.

I'm still seething from his 3 week suspension.

He certainly was much better then 2019. From all training reports it seems he's been training really well and hopefully can get back to his 2018 form.

As a disabled person, i say Well Done ANB

I was on my own during High School (no extra help) it wasn’t easy but that was the 70’s

Things have changed

Hope all is OK, SWYL. It's appropriate to mention it in this thread but kudos for not playing the "I'm disabled card" previously.

PS: I hope the above doesn't come across as condescending or inappropriate. Written with the best of intentions.

All good mate. I was the first disabled kid at my school

I had to learn and so did the school. There just wasn’t any infrastructure.

Toughened me up, so it wasn’t all bad

But i do look back sometimes and just think “wow” :)

Probably the main reason i get so irritated at The MFC failing itself every year.
The Club has to be prepared to go “over the line” Go to places it hasn’t been to. Push itself further than it thinks capable.
Sounds Cheesy, but it is the truth.
Players like Tracc can show the way, Clarry can do it, with belief.
Maybe ANB will suprise us all up forward this year!

He is a valued player in my book - gets in there and gets the ball, improving in disposal and team distribution. He can kick a needed goal, as well.

ANB, Gus, Hunt and Harmes - if these players lifted this season coming, we are in for a stellar year. These guys are the feeders ... each has very good upsides in the game. I'd expect Yze and Chocko to work hard on bringing this out in this foursome.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
