Where is Kozzie?

Featured Replies

My condolences to the young man at this terrible time.  Richo’s response was a great example of how to do it (Eddie, take note).  Something along the lines of ‘we dont know, but we have Matty Whelan who can help us get it right’ in terms of the cultural needs at this time. Listening with respect is the first step.  Well done Dees.

I look forward to Kozzie getting back and really taking his game to the next level when it is right for him to do so.

Per Alan Richardson his mom passed away. Funeral late Feb / early Mar so It'll be a few weeks before he returns. Condolences to the young man and his family.

Hell, condolences to Kozzy and family. That's a real blow.

If Kobe's training form been strong as documented on here then I'm sure they'll look at him over the trial games etc, and who knows? Maybe he pushes his case for round 1?

But Dazzle if Kobe was pushing for round one then he'd be list anyway wouldn't he regardless of whether Kossie was away or not.  You seemed to say that BECAUSE Kossie was away Kobe was an extra chance of being listed.

That's just doesn't make sense to me.  Kossie not being right for round one wouldn't impact of Kobe's chance of being listed.  Kobe being listed will depend on him being good enough.  Therefore I can't see a link you suggested was there.

Given your understanding of the ability of young players and knowledge of the indigenous community I was just interested if there was something I was missing.

But I am not saying he's pushing for round 1 now mate.. like all players on the list, no one is guaranteed a round 1 gig unless form warrents that during the pre season games. @Dannyz intel has been really good in the past, so I'm taking his word that Kobe has officially secured a spot on the list, but just waiting for the right time to announce it. If it was confirmed to Farmer last week then is it no coincidence that it's in line with Pickett being away in SA knowing it could be for a longer period of time? Bit that's me just spitballing personally.

It's only my own personal opinion 'Bob'. For all we know Pickett could extend his leave further. Does Pickett being away on indefinite leave  potentially give Farmer further chance of being on the list? Absolutely it does, you'd be silly not to think. Just like the whole Majak situation has given him a further chance in gaining a spot on our list due to our talls being unavailable come the early rounds.

Farmer will earn his spot on the list through sheer hard work, but coaching staff will also take into consideration of Picketts current situation, especially if Kobe's given himself every opportunity to potentially play a NAB game or whatever it's called now. If he's ready to go then it certainly helps fills that void until Pickett is att ease in coming back to Melbourne.

Gives us a chance to play one or both of the small forwards we drafted for this year in the first few rounds.

My condolences to  Kossie and his Family for the loss of his mother. May she rest in peace.  Hope all goes well for Kossie and l am sure the MFC are being supportive.  Our thoughts are with you.

i can't see any connection whatsoever between kozzie's absence and kobe's potential rookie signing

if kobe is signed up i would have no expectation of him playing seniors in 2021.

100% agreed.

I’d be flabbergasted if Farmer plays round 1 irrespective of Pickett’s availability.

Time for Bedford to step up however.

Very sad for the young kid. Hope he does get all support available to get back on track.

MFCSS just has me remembering  Liam Jurrah and Sean Charles neither of whom was ever the same after some time off for personal reasons.  ?

Of course they did Old Dee. Haha. I would never have guessed you’d think the worst in this situation.

Just saw on the Richo interview thread the reason for Kozzie’s absence, awful news my heart goes out the entire Pickett family. So very sad. Take the time you need Kozzie and your Dees family will be here to support you when you’re ready.

Yes, though I suspect that the plans are to play them further up the field, delivering into the forward line.

(Though what would I know ...)

So sad to hear of the passing of Kozzie's mum.

One take away from Richo's interview was the mention of Matt Whelan providing guidance on these issues for the indigenous boys.

This makes me so proud as a supporter to see the way we handle these situations and gives me great confidence in he administration we have.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Sunday’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
