I can't believe it. Got my tickets and pumped for this game.

Then just realized I have a family commitment that can't be changed at exactly the same time as the game starts.

So won't even be able to watch the game live.

So have to reframe the day and console myself with the inaugural:

Binman Super Saturday Sporting extravaganza!!!!

The day will involve:

  • A lead in on the Friday night, watching a bit of footy, watching the  Moonee Valley races, featuring the Group 1 William Reid Stakes and doing my form for the following day, which includes the Golden Slipper - always a great race to watch
  • Saturday morning, finalising my selections and then watching the early races
  • Complete media and all external communication blackout from 1:41pm (i'll listen to the build up) - note: of course i'll also avoid Demonland but i don't need to read it to know what will be in the game day thread
  • Family commitment
  • Watch the dees game 'as live' from about 4:30
  • Celebrating a win
  • Then from 6:45 watching the dees women's team also beat Freo, but this in real time - and secure a finals berth
  • Counting my money from the races
  • Watching the replay of the dees men's team win against Freo

One part of that statement is telling, we’re the 6th oldest and 6th most experienced. It’s time those we considered “kids” not long ago stepped up to being men and put their talent to use.

Damn, we cant even use the youth excuse anymore.

Does anyone know if you can stand on the lower level at the G, or must you be in a seat? I haven’t sat for a game in a looong Time maybe 15 years

Not sure about the answer to your question but initial reports stated we weren’t even allowed to stand up celebrating a goal, thank god that’s been put to bed now.

Have heard snippets here and there.

Defensive zoning will be a big thing Adem is pushing. We'll run forward hard and fast, but players behind the ball will be left in no uncertain terms about where they should be positioning themselves to try and prevent the opposition rebounding we're so used to seeing.

Gawny will be forward a fair bit. Not sure if that will change once Weid and/or Brown are back, but it's absolutely part of the strategy. Other talls, namely Jackson and TMac will be tasked with getting higher up the ground to make that work.

We may also see a bit of a surprise on the wing... I'd give a clue, but then you might pick it. ;)

A player that is a lock for debut for mine is James Jordan.  Every interview with anyone at the club signals him out as a standout in the preseason - not sure what else he can do to get a gig.  Especially with Viney out of the team.  Would be surprised if he's the winger but he might be part of the rotations?

There are small areas for standing room on level one, ground floor scattered around the ground. I think there is room for about 5,000 standing room patrons. However I’m not sure in this environment what rules will apply. Probably a phone call to the ground would be your best bet.

Well i have a ticket organised by  Moonshadow.  That means I’ll have to sit next to the  [censored].
My main concern, however, is bar access

Does anyone know the deal for getting booze?

Don't risk it.  You'll only miss seeeing one of Luke Jacksons 6 goals for the game.  Unless you go at half time .

All but confirmed that Jordon will debut, that's not who I was talking about though.

Maybe my clue was too subtle Koz some people seem to have missed it...

how much more time can a 4th year player have at the second level, just gotta cut losses and move on.

I love these sort of comments. What, we should cut him today? That's it, no more possibility you will play for the red and blue again?

He is contracted so how about you see what he produces this year before making ridiculous comments.

You can bet your last $ Bing that if we lose the media and us long suffering supporters will get stuck into the players and Goody. Then if we win the media will say we beat a depleted team. We do not win any which way which is the norm with us until we get some consistent performances in.

Don't care a W is a W

I gave up trying to work out the AFL  a decade ago.

Melbourne would still find a way to lose that.

according to afl site, pickett will definitely play, as will may, salem, brayshaw, and oliver - no mention of hibberd which i guess puts jetta back in the starting side frame, and the general 'vibe' seems to be that jordon will debut...

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
