I believe Hardwick made finals in his 4th year of coaching & there was plenty of angst amongst Richmond supporters regarding his coaching . He had plenty of “ups & downs”. I think Goodwin deserves 2021 before he is judged  quite so harshly...

After 4 years Goodwin has a better win loss record then Clarkson and Hardwick.

At least Pert gets it:

“While it's driven through the whole football program, it will be a very big focus and it’s a priority of our program, of the players taking real ownership.

“They’ve got to own it, they’ve got to drive it, they’ve got to hold each other accountable.

Apologies if I come across as critical I don’t wish to be overly harsh. Your views are shared by many.

Everyone has a role to play. Recruitment is critical as without the cattle you’ve no chance.

Pres, CEO, GM, and coaching panel all have a vital role to play. And of course the players have to stand up and be counted, deliver consistently, be professional and give their all.

But the head coach is the most important single individual in the whole footy department imv. The role brings it all together, drives standards, sets game plan and motivates the players. You can’t win with a poor head coach.

Success is made up of 100’s of little things. The coach should spot and address them 1 by 1 and the team will naturally and gradually improve. I’m not seeing this as we keep making the same mistakes.

I don’t think we’ll have a meeting of minds on this. Your entitled to your view. And I respect your view.

Enjoy the rest of your evening bing.

Yze: brings kicking skills and Avant- garde strategy.
Williams: self belief, knows the ropes of a grand final journey, kicking skills, slightly crazy.
Burgess: first full season to show player fitness superiority. Belief

Goodwin: hope he finds the keys to those MIA quarters and draws on the experience of those now surrounding him.
id love to see us play games where fundamental skill errors are a rarity and the game plan can evolve outside hitting the ‘hotspot’ up forward. Bitter, but, optimistic.

Alot of the posts on here suggest we pulled a rabbit out of the hat by signing Williams. Reality is that no one wanted him and he was desperate for an AFL job to the point he was ringing around.  Having said that it doesn't mean he isn't the right person for the job and with the new footy club softcap you need coaches that have multiple facets. Have high hopes he can instill belief and a winning mindset that sees us embrace must win games. Also prefer he does his job in the background away from media

Interesting appointment. Premiership coach is a huge tick but it was a long time ago and he has been around the traps moving clubs and place. He is obviously a creative left field type guy but also a prickly pear. Who can forget his ego driven feud with PA Pres Scott, finishing with his famous noose around the neck after the granny. Spontaneous but did not reflect well on Williams. A lack of judgment and humility.

Still and all probably worth a try. It could be an inspired choice or a disaster if he rubs other coaching staff up the wrong way.

Like handling a live hand grenade with the pin out?

Many see us as an underperforming flaky and unreliable football team.

That  is Perfectly changeable with coaching recruiting and attention to the 1% ers.

With Yooze Choco Goody  and Richo there are no excuses for brain fades lairising and player egos. Harry O would not survive in this environment and I don't expect any of our fair weather players to either.

Who’s Harry O?

I’m not a Goodwin fan and don’t think he is the right guy based on the last 4 yrs as head coach.
My take is that it’s good
insurance to have Williams on board if Goodwin doesn’t perform again next season then I would be happy to see him in the top job if the opportunity arises.

Not much, he died a long time ago.

He would probably choke himself.

So Alistair Clarkson is responsible for Hawthorn finishing 15th this year.

Of course he is. If he hadn't put so much effort into winning four Premierships, he would have had a team much better placed this year. Possibly finishing as high as the bottom half of the eight.

Are you saying he should not have won Premierships so he could be better placed in 2020

Yes...but hopefully you realised that I meant it satirically.

Same as Lions In 2005 after their three peat although Clarko/Wright  have  not used the Annual Draft well nor the players they have recruited since 2016.

Mitchell the best to date but some  are still injury prone ( Patton Scully) and or inconsistent (Windgard).

Couldn't be more thrilled with the off field moves. i think Alan Richardson into the GM role will prove to be a masterstroke, Mark Williams imo is the best development coach in the game outside of Brendan McCartney so very good to fill that role again, and Adem Yze is an absolute gun, he will absolutely sort our midfield out. three experienced and high quality football people walking in the door significantly improve our program.

it's now or never for goody, he couldn't have a better team, the club is in good hands.

Balme never won a flag during his administrative tenure at Collingwood.

Well said Patches

This is an elite coaching group that NOW has a fair bit of talent young medium and sort of oldish.

How that  Ooze Makes  that Midfield gel together is the major factor IMO it's got too be team orientated not dominated by ONE individual so some egos might have to be defused a bit!

the Forward  line Is next. New recruits and BBB plus the Fritta and abundance of smalls and youngsters plus Jacko and if he makes a comeback Tommy Mac and Weid of course. Staffords got a lot of responsibility here it HAS to succeed.

AND the game plan Goody this is your baby with all the coaches.

Clesr simple instructions and tons of imagination With  the players Versatility to match the style of play. Pace and skill will win out. Please please solve this also.

REST is tweaking the defence and ensuring all players get further developed under CHOCO.

WINNING is now our one motive to get the fans and MZG excited and develop the ability we know that is on our list.

SUPPORT from all fans and members is vital to ensure that the players Are at their peak each and every game.

AIM as Choco said is a flag not just to improve in 2021.

  • 2 weeks later...

As previously mentioned I am incredibly excited about the Demons recruiting Mark "Choco" Williams.

He may be a bit eccentric but he is a brilliant coach and teacher. To have him as head of development will be fantastic.

For those those who have some spare time over the Christmas holidays I highly recommend checking out Mark's "winning teams" YouTube channel found here: https://youtube.com/channel/UCdqLn6TslJwdR70ojbTXAUQ

Having Mark teach players like Max Gawn, Angus Brayshaw, Clayton Oliver, Bayley Fritsch, and of course, Christian Petracca how to kick correctly in play and for goal will do massive wonders for the Demons.

This won't be a quick change, but given time, say over 18 months,  we should see the results of Mark "Choco" Williams helping to develop the kicking abilities of our players at the Melbourne Football Club.

I highly recommend any Melbourne supporters, who get a chance to, go down to Demons training at Casey Fields (or Gosch's Paddock) and say a friendly welcome to Mark "Choco" Williams. I will try and do so myself when training resumes.

Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club Mark "Choco" Williams! ?

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
