The Demond had 3 nominations for Goal of the Year during the year.

Round 11 Kozzy Pickett for his twist and juggling and snap goal versus the Roos

Round 12 Jake Melksham for his quick reaction soccer goal from 12 metres out v Pies

Round 14 Christian Petracca for his “mark” twist and strength to turn and kick whilst being jumped on from 25 metres out v Saints (the match winner). It won the weekly Best goal.

I still reckon Trent Rivers left foot spiral kick v Giants in round 17 was a beauty and so important to win it.  The small crowd went crazy.

Other nominations ????

I initially had Harley for the emotion behind it... but as things now stand..etc etc.

@spirit of norm smith I concur re: Trent Rivers goal as well.

And Trac's against the Saints.

Did Oliver not kick one not dissimilar to his a few years ago re: Adelaide?

I'll throw in Trac's against GWS. The one hand pickup in traffic. Two or three steps into a 40m snap. Pure Power.

Charlie Spargo up front and centre crumb goal from the top of the goal square vs pies.

Only because it's the only crumbing goal I can remember and we need substantially more of these to have a decent crack at a flag.

Agree. End of the first quarter. It had a real stamp of authority. The way Trac picked it up and burst clear and slotted it from a tight angle about 40 metres out. First class ??

Another Trac Nomination.  (#6)

I remember another excellent long range Trac goal v Suns in Round 6.

Two minutes left and we were 5 points up. Oliver was actually composed and found Trac 50 metres out.
Trac kicks it 60 metres straight through the middle and into the stand.  Seals the game.

Tracs goal against the Saints that made it across the line by a bees diaphragm .

or Trent Rivers exciting snap against GWS.

I think I jumped higher with Trents goal so that just wins for me.

Trac let go with a number of big roosts from outside 50 this year and they pretty much always looked like going through right off the boot.  I recall one against the Saints, another against Essendon and possibly one on the run against North.

Such a weapon and an absolute pleasure to watch.

ANB’s goal in the final round was a good one too

From memory he kicked a couple of pearlers that day.

One hard up on the boundary early in the game when he bent it back through perfectly and that other one where he picked up the bouncing ball headding into oncoming traffic and then slotted it straight through.

Trac's goal vs St Kilda that only just made it through was pretty sweet given how many times the Saints have done us in. Also loved his power, pick up, and finish goal vs GWS; pure class.

Tracs goal against st kilda won us the game and although lucky, was an amazing effort to get on the boot so quickly. Definetly the dees GOTY

This one for me.

That was a beauty ... very unMelbournian combination of second effort and team set up.

That goal was ridiculous and gets my vote.

yes Oliver kicked a beauty v Kangas. Last minute goal.
Banana from the pocket but less exciting as we were already 9 goals up and no crowd.

despicable me banana GIF

1. Petracca against GWS

2. Petracca against North

3. The field

I agree Trac’s best this year are awesome.

v GWS - the pickup on the run and kick from 45 metres on a tight angle

v Kangas - the spoil, the run and burst and kick from 55 metres

v Blues  - Huge goal, contested mark v Newnes on 60 metres out and to burst clear and kick it from 55 out

v Hawks - contested mark v Sicily and then the goal from 50 metres out

v Saints  1.  the match winning goal beating 3 Saints  and kicking it whilst being held. 2.  The first goal from 55 metres out

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
