Yes

But need to balance challenges of continuity, building a team, being on a "journey" (? I hate that word) with cleaning the carcass and "rebuilding"

Continuity means nothing if the wrong people are involved.
seen that so often in business as well as sport

But does it happen seriously?

We are not good enough again....

Oh FFS - so only serious reviews annually occur when a premiership is won? To the premiership winners? Or perhaps the top 8?

You are old enough and wise enough to understand there are a whole range of things outside of your control - these things have been pointed out repeatedly to you and to others throughout the year.

One last time for just 'some of the' factors (reasons, excuses) that have impinged on our season.

  • Essendon AND Melbourne had a bye - at the beginning of a 15 game stretch... no other teams had that disadvantage
  • Travel, multiple 'hubs' compared to a range of other teams that had limited travel...i could list what that impacts but i shant.

If you think that these things do NOT affect the playing group and capacity to perform, and that  it's all due to 'coaching' , you're either naive or stuck in 1966.

As you said, Lenny would be a ripping fitness coach for you :)

Still the most 'hardest' and most perpetually disappointed poster on here.

Love ya guts.

Please don’t trott out excuses. All Clubs were in very similar conditions this year.
we had multiple chances to set up a good ladder position

Surely this happens every year regardless

This is only a "story" as we finished 9th and have underwhelmed the last 2 years

I reckon you'll find it's an external review, which would not happen every year.

Well if they won’t get rid of Goodwin I’m glad they’re at least looking at getting him top quality support. At least then there really won’t be anymore excuses.

They should've done that 2 years ago!! So reactive, it was obvious after 2018 we needed to replenish the assistants

So what was said about those two? Finals or bust must be obvious to everybody, including Goodwin.

You would assume everyone gets run over with a fine tooth comb with Goodwin it being based on what areas he needs to improve in to get the team achieving the best their capable of.

Mahoney is an interesting one because I remember Roos being very complimentary or him but he should be heavily reviewed given the lacklustre results the last two seasons.

Was Mahoney behind getting rid of Jack Watts?

The more informative article was about North sacking 6 coaches, and some big names. The MFC review is forced on them because they have to cut 3 million from their budget (extra $ 50K if you include the fine). AFL also introduced a rule that paying out coaches doesn't go on next years budget and are facilitating clearing out support staff at all clubs. The financial loses this season will not be recouped for many years and the existing levels of staff are not sustainable.

Granted all clubs have the same problem but we will not replace like for like. By that I mean having a coach for everything ie at North Firrito has been let go as their next gen coach. I doubt that will be replaced. Burgoyne at Hawthorn will have a coaching role but stay on as a player, his wage come of the team budget not the soft cap. Jones I believe will have a similar role at MFC. Daniel Cross and Max Rooke have already been stood down.

Many coaches will lose their jobs and others have their hours reduced. Does Max need a ruck coach? Perhaps not but maybe his role is the nurture Jackson and Bradtke.

This is an AFL instigated restructure or disruption of all clubs coaching structures which I am pleased that Pert is running from the top down.

What exactly has Mahoney done wrong? Genuine question.

Haven't heard specifically as such, but the impression I've got is that Mahoney and Goodwin have a bit of a clique which has meant Goodwin has had more say than maybe he should have. We've seen some good assistant coaches move on with the feeling being they were ones who challenged Goodwin (not in negative ways). Goodwin is seen as a pretty stubborn coach who doesn't utilize the strengths of others properly, something he has been 'talked to' about by some senior club people now.

There's also been some other context with Mahoney being groomed by Jackson as his successor, only to be overlooked by Barlett for Pert.

Personally, my take (from the outside) is that while Mahoney has done really well with trading; his management of the footy department and especially coaches has not been anywhere near that level.

It appears there will lots of movement in the Football Department. I'm intrigued what will happen. It appears that Simon Goodwin will be surrounded by new staff. I think Alan Richardson will probably be the New Football Manager. We will get a clear picture soon.

Really?  (Bolded part) Can't see in his cv what credentials/experience he has for the GM role.

I hope it isn't a case of:  'the GM position is vacant, Richo is surplus so lets put him in the job'!  I've seen it happen many times in organisations, it never ends well.

Just to be clear, that's just a bit of a hunch from 'connected' people, it's not been officially talked about.

If it was to happen, it definitely does feel a bit like you mentioned with contracts and vacancies tying our hands a bit,.

1. Gave Kolodjasnij a 3 year contract to a medically unfit player in the hope he would get himself right. So far we've got 2 games out of him. Massive failure.

2. Signed Tom McDonald on big money $700k+ and a long contract after 1 good season as a forward.

3. Signed Harmes on a 5 year deal. Granted he is a good player but he's no superstar.

4. Probably had something to do with offering Goodwin a ridiculously long contract on big coin after 1 season playing finals.

Do anyone know who is conducting this “review “?

Terms of reference?

When is likely to conclude/ report?

I have the same question BBo. The MFC that I know of have not even said one is under way. Everyone is going on an article from Jay Clark. Some extreme speculation on here and I suspect 90% of it has no foundation in fact. But I guess its  finals time and as usual we are not involved and  have nothing better to do  than wild speculation.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
