Agree.  Carlton have offered a bucket load of cash to Saad and Williams, both are reasonable players, but Clarrie would want at least double what they are going to get which would blow their TPP out of the water.

don't think tpp has ever bothered cartscum before :)

I hope we've put a 5 year extension in front of Oliver. If we haven't, we're asleep at the wheel.

Of late, the club has tried to sign up key players a long way out from contract expiration so maybe talks are in progress or will start once the sal cap is known.

Oliver has a big decision to make.  He either signs for an extra 2 years to his FA year when his options are open.

Or, he signs a mega 5-6 year extension that takes him to the latter stages of his career and then becomes a demon for life ?.  I suspect this is what the club would want.

If he follows Petracca, Brayshaw and many other AFL 'young guns he will sign for two years.  There is no reason for these guys to sign up beyong their FA year.

Of course, he could put off contract negotiations but that would surprise.

The club has been pretty good in recent years in getting contract extensions done.  We've lost the odd player here and there, but they've never been crucial to our side going forward.  All of our key players have signed either short or long term deals and you would expect the same thing to happen with Oliver, whether that be 5 years or something shorter, which we've also done in the past as well.

I think we're jumping at shadows a little with Oliver, though.  Sure, he might be disappointed in his finish in the best and fairest, and may be disappointed with our season overall, but I don't see that as a reason to jump ship to someone else.  He doesn't strike me as that type of person.

I'm pretty confident he'll be a Demon for life... but then I never thought Jeff Farmer would leave all those years ago, so what the hell would I know?

Absolutely no way Oliver goes to Carlton next year.

Essendon will want Carlton's next 10 first round draft picks for Saad, so what can Carlton offer us? Cripps, McKay?

Lucky Oliver's contracted.

No luck needed,  not even purple has heard about this it is total fake news, miscommunication, it has as much substance as the petracca rumours last year that he was unhappy. End thread now or suspend until at least 1 other journo says it.

This rumour is whipping Carlton nuffies into a frenzy. A popular theory - as relayed to me by my own Carlton nuffy mate - is they’ll flip pick 7 into 2x late first round picks (with WB), swapping one for Saad and one for Oliver. I suggested that appeared a bit unfair and they should ask for Petracca as steak knives.

For as long as Oliver is contracted, Melbourne will not let him go. End of story.

We have to play well as a team next year to make sure he re-signs. It is not rocket science that A grade players, want to play for A grade teams and play finals, not play for a mediocre nothing club.

The rumors are probably true. Clayton being an immature 23 yr old probably wasn't happy where he finished in bnf and I'm sure Carlton are sniffing around. Does that mean he's going anywhere? doubt it. Nor do I want that to be the case like everyone else.

But the rumor mill always strikes interesting discussions. Always fun exploring a different narrative for this team. Like what could we get for Oliver? Surely quite a bit considering his consistency and that there's still more to develop.

Could we potentially form a good, perhaps more balanced midfield without him? Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes have all shown they can play together at the highest level with the latter two obviously needing to find their way back. Maybe being back in the middle more is the answer. We have some depth with the developing Sparrow/Jordan and possibly even Rivers/Kozzy down the line. There's the Luke Jackson factor with his ability at stoppages. A handful of guys to pinch hit in the midfield like AVB. Is that enough? Probably not but with another solid midfielder in the mix it via trade or free agent it could be interesting.

I would hope the football department would be looking at every angle and avenue to improve this team. Sometimes a pivot is whats needed as we've seen from other clubs in the past. I would be highly pessimistic of course of a trade for Oliver right now.

You have to factor in where Oliver could get to with top line coaching.

They have offered two 1st rounders but Melb not interested.

He is already top 5 midfielders in the comp and arguably our best player of the last 30 years. Coaching isnt holding him back.

Yep, Bigfooty nuffies reporting this years first and next years first for Oliver and a second rounder (just a Cartlon supporters suggestion though I believe).

Nuffies is being a little too kind, ET.

Agreed. It's where the Cripps rumour started as well. Someone suggested that a player from a 'Big' Victorian club is going to request a trade to WA. Another poster then posted an article about Cripps' partner and her mental health issues. The nuffies then all agreed that the evidence was overwhelming and settled on the player returning to WA was indeed Cripps.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
