To be fair, you'd be trading for an All Australian full back, an All Australian midfielder, and a borderline All Australian half back flanker. It'd be the equivalent of us losing May, Oliver and Salem. They'd have every right to demand the world. I can't even imagine losing multiple players of that calibre in one hit! 2 Quote
titan_uranus 25,243 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Merrett would fit into our midfield but: I can't see him leaving Essendon; and I can't see how we can afford him. 1 Quote

We had a family zoom Saturday night and my aunty is related to the Danihers ( from her side of the family so we have no connections nor have I ever met Joe ) but she was asked about the Daniher thing and she mentioned that Joe won't be the only big name player. Merrett, Hurley and Hooker were others that were named. 42 minutes ago, Ethan Tremblay said: Unfollowed Essendon on Instagram and removed them from his bio. He’s.Gone.Mate. Pulp Fritschon 774 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 RFA in 2021 interesting Also got dropped from leadership group in 2019 Good player finds a heap of the ball. Would suit us. Hard to see us having the currency to satisfy. Quote

Absolutely fair enough, but the Bombers in particular love to aim very high. they'd probably be asking for Oliver, Petracca, Gawn and May Quote

The heart beats true 18,201 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Essendon seem to have botched the coaching hand over. Players openly displeased with the new coach over Bell Chambers not getting a farewell game. Hurley, Merrett and Hooker all good mates with him and very unhappy it seems. Saad has also told the world he’s going too. What a mess. I’m thrilled. 4 1 2 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,804 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Fairly common for players to stop following their respective team social media accounts over the off-season, at least for nba players and the like Quote

Lord Nev 13,512 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Watson on SEN: Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Watson was confident that Merrett would be a Bomber next year. “I got a call yesterday in the afternoon that concerned me a little bit, but I’ve been assured that he’s not going anywhere, he’ll be staying at Essendon, he does have a contract of course,” he said. “People read into this, the fact that he got left out of the leadership group and maybe he’s still unhappy there at Essendon, but I was told categorically that he would not be going anywhere. “There has been some scuttlebutt out there that he might want to go to Melbourne or Melbourne is really interested in him and he’s got a great mate in him in Michael Hibberd and obviously he was coached by Simon Goodwin as well, but that’s not going to be the case as it was put to me yesterday.” 1 Quote

Probably categorically confirmed Daniher would be staying too at some point I’m sure. 1 Quote

Gawndy the Great 9,011 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 It was always going to be difficult to get him. He'd be one of their marquee players that they would do anything to hold onto. Quote

Pulp Fritschon 774 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Might be best to make our intentions known this year and pick him up as a free agent next year. I can't see Essendon trading him this year unless we offer up overs and we have a very week draft hand as it stands. 1 Quote

Have figured we would throw everything at trade season for Goody (and the current list) in a last chance saloon, hail Mary. His last chance to use his Essendon connections as well. Go for broke, it's a good time to raid the Bombers, they are flailing. 5 Quote
