I received my MFC membership renewal advance notification emails yesterday, but instead of one email for each membership (mine and my son's), they have sent two for each, and the renewal amount stated in each email, appears to include the cost of the GF guarantee (although it doesn't state that in the email).

A couple of things that are concerning me are:

  1. If the system is sending out two emails for each membership, is it possible it could also take two payments for each membership; and
  2. I had received an email in June from Tracy responding to my query about the GF Guarantee payment and whether it would be applied to next season (instead of this season), due to the [censored] that has been season 2020 (I was concerned they might consider it a 'donation', which is something we couldn't really afford).  The response in that email was: "It appears that those with a Grand Final Guarantee this year will have one credited for 2021. This information will be confirmed with renewals for 2021 when that information is sent out."
My concern is that the dollar amounts in the renewal emails I have just received are exactly the same as last year's, which included the GF Guarantee amount.

I have been trying to contact the club by phone, but with no success. As this is a bit frustrating, I thought I'd put this here in the hope that anyone else who may have had the same issue and may have had more success in contacting the club, could throw some light on my issue.  Thanks in advance.

I also received 2 emails per membership for my family. I just assumed that it was an error but now you've got me worried that they will automatically debit twice.

I also don't recall going on the automatic renewal and the emails are saying that I will be automatically debited on the 26th of October.

I will always renew my memberships but I've never put them on automatic renewal. It is up to me when I want to be disappointed.

Did the emails contain any mention of your generosity for 2020 and/or the possibility of no attendance for all or part of 2021

I didn't even get an email but if I log into the membership portal they seem to have already processed my membership - also no acknowledgement at all of my donation earlier in the year I wonder what is going on there...

I received two emails as well. I understand that clubs are finding life difficult, but I'm pretty unimpressed that the best they can offer members is a price freeze when we received zero value for money in 2020. The price rises in the past 3 - 4 years have been significant, and certainly haven't been matched by the performances on the field.

Similar here.

Email yesterday with my name on it but was for my daughter's membership, then 2 emails today for my membership.

Bit of a mess, but to be fair to the club; they'd be operating on minimal staff on minimal hours at the moment. It also could be the fault of ticketmaster who send out the club EDMs and not the fault of the club itself.

In saying all that, it's a pretty important year to really get the memberships right.

The thing that concerns me the most is that I was told by the club (via email) that this year’s GF Guarantee payment would be carried over to next year, but it now appears I’m being charged for it. If I could actually get through to the membership dept by phone, I could at least discuss it with them... I left a message for them to call me back, but so far, nothing.

How do you opt out of auto-renewal? I bought a few extra memberships this year to assist the club and want to revert to my normal amount for next season.

Edit: All good, found it.

in the past i have explicitly requested no automatic renewals, yet that is what happened to me last year too

i don't mind reminders but not auto billing

Yeah I got this bad boy. Little bit surprised that they are telling me $635 is going to be coming out when we have next to no idea how next season is even going to be carried out yet.Thought it made a bit better sense to delay this until Nov or Dec, think I will just do that myself.

I did choose to go on auto renew last year for the first time, I think I will be going back to manual. I'll absolutely be renewing but I'll be choosing when.

Would have been nice to get a little more recognition of our ‘donation’ from this year.  It was a bucket load of cash , and what did i see for it?  A few thank you videos?  They have missed a trick with building loyalty, especially with what they dished up on field

Like everyone else a membership renewal notice landed in my inbox today. I only received the one email so it seems like the issues some of us are experiencing aren't across the board. I'm a trident member with an auto grand final guarantee and on auto renewal as well. They'll be taking something in the region of $71 per month from November which I think is the same as the current year. The only thing I'll be changing is from an electronic membership on my phone back to good old plastic.

If I were you I'd be contacting them ASAP regarding the GF Guarantee portion of your payment.  They explicitly stated to me that it would be credited to next year... but it is definitely included in the amount they are saying will be taken for my auto renewal...

I only got the one email as well but I'm also Trident. Could be Something in that.

That's interesting hardtack. I've no idea what proportion of the overall membership cost relates to that GF guarantee but will send them an email just to get some clarification on it. If anyone has the same membership as me (it includes away games played in Melbourne) without a GF guarantee and can let me know what they are paying then that should make it pretty clear.

We must both be special.

Regarding the people that have received two emails perhaps that's how we've raised close to the $1 million we need so quickly ?

I am a std member and only got one email. However if we don’t make the finals which looks to be the case I am waiting for the chairman to honour The promise of an external review of all areas of the club. I will accept just a review of the FD but it must be an external review. If this is not forthcoming I will then seriously consider my future membership. They have approx. four weeks from the game this weekend to prove to me that they are not all talk.

Well, there goes that theory Old Dee!

I think this is fair though it would just be nice for a bit more water to go under the bridge first.

Should I be worried? I was sent 7 emails earlier for the same membership package.

The grand final guarantee is automatically included to Trident's, Premium Club, Redlegs, Legends memberships so no extra charge.

I'm trident and got two emails lol!

I've been on auto renew for 15 years, but now being 6 months unemployed thanks to Covid I think I'll stop auto renew but don't necessarily want to cancel.

The opt out note in the email seems like if you cancel auto renew you cancel membership is that what it looks like to you layz?

Thanks DD. You've saved me an email. So the discount for 2021 relates to standard members that have paid for the GF guarantee to be added to their season ticket ? It makes me wonder how many supporters collectively make up those four coterie groups. Not quite enough to fill our entire GF ticket allocation it seems.

Four weeks from this weekend is when you have to notify if you want to not continue your membership. They have four weeks to advise if they are going to do a review. I don’t expect it to be done by then.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
