Somehow I donโ€™t think the club will entertain a question based on the selection of one ex-player in one game

Was merely pointing out that thaAGM is on Monday he surely would have awareness that It's an annual event and the Pruess selection occurred in Aug/Sept 2020.

What is the purpose of your username if you think we need a star forward?ย

I think you will find Rosman Laurie and Bowey plus Sparrow ย might be the answer ( or part there of) in this regard.

But would not say NO to any of the players you have listed .

Someone mentioned in a training report (a rumour) that Lachie Ash would be heading back to Vic at the end of his contract (2021) and would be going to Dees or Cats. Whether it's true or not, he can be chucked on top of the list. Just what we need!

Yes. We lack pace and outside run.

Would be a great pick up.ย  We have no first round pick, neither do the cats.

Lachie Ash is the nephew of Chris Connelly and supported the Dees but jumped ship to Geelong because how terrible we were during the Neeld years.

Jackson is a ruck. not a forward. Has his 3 goals on 6 games been enough to prove to you that Jackson is going to be a star forward? lol

The club earmarked him as playing forward and ruck relief, while Gawny holds down no1 ruck. I'd say that gives him another 3+ years to grow into the role and potentially become a star forward. Maybe the kid cements his position and we pick up a cheap mature ruck after Gawn retires, who knows? You're judging a 200cm first year player recruited for his athleticism, on just 6 games? "lol"

Yes, we might need a key star forward, but that remains to be seen with how Brown, Weid, Tmac, Petty & Jackson all go this year. Reassess in October.

1989 Wayne Carey 4 games . nil goals 2 behinds.

Like Demonic I don't agree with you on Jacko. He is a ruckman but ha can be a mid or a running player because of his elite tank and skill.

He can play on the forward line and link up with any if the forwards and dodo go in the ruck and get tap outs plus chase the ball and with ground play and handball be creative.

He might kick 15 to 20 plus goals in 2021 if he plays forward but will be a very good score assist as well.ย
He willย also be very competitive in the ruck Giving Gawny a rest for sayย 5/8 mins each quarter orcrucking in the Forward ย line .

He is going to be a once in a generation footballer versatile and a matchย ย winner Wherever he plays on the field,

ainsworth is settled in that suns side and serong is off the table too i'd imagine

i think Tippa is getable out of the dons as they sink down the ladder, lipinski is too good to be playing 2s at the dogs and suits that melksham role (or vandemeer) and jelly could be the big fish we need for the non langdon wing. ik its unrealistic we get all these options but one maybe two improves our side tenfold

We took Jackson because he was best available and he was life after Gawn. That's it. He wasn't drafted to play forward. But we've put him there to help with his development. He is a ruckman through and through.ย

The facts are that he played primarily ruck in the juniors.

But he is an early developer for a tall and his athleticism makes him a horrible deep defensive match up for the opposition.

I'm not saying he is not a Ruckman, but his game is still developing (as all players do once their are in the AFL system).

He might be a Ruckman/Resting Forward or Forward/Relieving Ruckman. I am guessing that he will turn out to be more of the latter.ย

Exciting times ahead.

I was going to bag him out for switching clubs. Then I realised he was probably 10 years oldย

Imagine a half back line with Saad and Williams on it. we'd immediately become on of the best rebound teams in the comp.ย

It'd be costly. but if we could somehow get those two guys, and another wingman. it'd be a great result.

Think Williams might go elsewhere though

I feel under the possibly mistaken belief that we have the defending clearers covered with depth. Some classy kids are with us - with one more year of development and orientation that could be used well with nouse, played in a position to further develop as necessary and that is the key. At all costs, we must develop, not play versatiles in their incorrect positions, as we have seen ad infinatum across the past couple of seasons. Some of the names mentioned on the trade table in this thread are great defenders, sure; some of our younger brigade could be even better, depending on the coaching accumen we apply with consistency, to them.

I know we are going great guns and its only halfway through the season, but there is a lot developing on the trade front already. We have had a number of dedicated trade target related threads but there are less obvious ones that i have seen recently floating around various media outlets.

Some absolute superstar players that would addย significantly to our playing list include (and in no particular order):

1. Zac Merret (inside & outside) -> adds to ball use and midfield depth. Reports are that he is likely to sign with Dons.ย
2. Josh Kelly (outside / wing) -> great runner and ball user. Has goal kicking in his repertoire. has been off and on in the past few years - perhaps vital to the resurgence of GWS and hence unlikely to leave given his mammoth contract.ย
3. Tom Mitchell (outside) -> Former brownlow, ball accumulator and play maker - will be difficult to deal with the Hawks on this given lack of required draft picks.ย
4. Luke Parker (general midfielder) -> great attacking midfielder, hard working and intelligent, would add great depth to the midfielder and attacking options (replacement for Melksham?). Currently out-of-contract, not sure whether Parker would be a RFA or FA. He is 28 yo. Sydney will hit the premiership window sweet spot in the next 2-3 years, which may just be outside of his career.ย
5. Adam Cerra (outside) -> great ball user and has footy smarts, will be an elite footballer. Wants to leave Freo. Have a trade history with Freo, but fear they have a bitter taste with the Hogan saga.ย
6. Shai Bolton (outside / small forward) -> unlikely but an up and coming superstar. Cant see him leaving unless he was after big $$$, which we dont have to spare.
7.ย Brandon Maynardย (versatile defender) -> talked only on DL about a replacement for Jetta / Hibberd. Can go one-on-one also has great rebound 50 skills (ala Hibberd).

We don't have much by the way of trade currency unless we offer players as part of a trade swap. I'd say most of the above will require some level of draft picks, which makes any of them unlikely.ย

The other issue is our salary cap. Its been speculated that we are close to the tip. I wonder whether Jetta & Jones will be asked to retire at year end. Would still need to trade a player who is a regular Melbourne starter to get anything done - Weideman is really the only player that comes to mind.ย

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, itโ€™s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. Itโ€™s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologistย  Itโ€™s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now letโ€™s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmedย the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).ย

  • CASEY: Essendon

Caseyโ€™s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckmanโ€™s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demonsโ€™ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
