I think the dees really need to take the plunge. He will add 50+ goals and assist Weid next year. He is a genuine star and will boost membership sales.

If it means we lose tmac and Brayshaw or Viney so be it, we have a surplus of inside mids.

Let's fix our lack of speed and defensive accountability before worrying about paying an arm and a leg for Jeremy Cameron.  You'd only go for Cameron if you were a top 4 team and ready for a flag tilt, so Geelong makes sense

I smell the Cats in a big way on this.

Viney/Crouch and Cameron and they would see all their problems solved in one hit.

And eventually it's got to come out that they're cheating the salary cap.

I'd be going Ben King, not Cameron.

According to SEN - has told GWS he wants to go to Geelong. #Equalisation.

I would have loved to have this guy on the list. The rich get richer.

Has chosen Geelong.

FA needs to change:

  • Buddy to GF'list
  • Lynch to Premiers
  • Daniher to Prelim team

The AFLPA can carry on as much as they like abut the number of players that don't exercise FA or a few go to low teams.

But as the above shows the best go to the best teams which just makes them stronger.

What could be the flow on affect with this. It will have one for sure.

Do they Giants now go after Ben Brown, does this force Geelong into losing a player or 2?  Very interesting times.

God I hate Geelong.

Edit - also, what does this mean for their pursuit of Brad Crouch?  Surely they can't get both?

The only way that free agency can work is that the club gains as much control as the player when it comes to trading IE in the NBA. Teams need to be able to trade without player consent. The way we do it is have essentially anyone who isn't happy at their current club a free agent no matter their contract situation. By allowing teams to trade freely they can then make legitimate plays for free agents. It makes me sick that a Coleman medalist will be joining the potential premier for free whilst the rest of the comp have salary cap issues by being told they need to pay x% of their salary cap on average players, this is why middle table teams stay middle table, they get handcuffed over paying for role players.

Urgh. Similar to Lynch deciding to join Richmond this really sucks as an opposition club.

Deflating

Free agency is not working.

It just makes the strongest clubs stronger , Hawthorn, Richmond, Geelong.

All it’s good for is creating dynasties

How is this allowed to happen? Thats why free agency was bought it to keep the likes of Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood from bottoming out.

can't stand the Kents

I'll walk away if that happens, how many promised properties will they have after footys over, surely can't be under the cap.

Geelong have the perfect combo right now.

They have free agents willing to come, and they also have local players who come back to the club for peanuts (outside of Dangerfield anyway).  They'll never bottom out at this rate.  It's sickening.

Apparently getting Crouch, Higgins, Cameron and in the mix for Smith. Even with the retirements of Ablett, Taylor and a few others something just doesnt seem right...

As a fan of the game of AFL this kind of stuff really turns me off.

BUT knowing how invested the AFL are in GWS, both economically and culturally, something tells me they might not tolerate this anymore. The Giants look to be due for a few years in the wilderness, and it’s not part of the plan at headquarters. If GWS continues to be a feeder club then it’s not sustainable. Interesting times.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
