I really like the new look on the iPhone - much cleaner.

Thanks for all the work you do @Demonland to keep the site up and running, as well as running the podcast. I’m not sure of the costs involved in doing all this, but is there a Donate button, so that those that wish to can chuck in a dollar or two from time to time?

Thank you. The cleaner look is the software. I just clicked a button to install it.

You can donate here if you like: https://demonland.com/clients/donations/

If you want to remove the advertising then you might want to look into a Demonland Subscription: https://demonland.com/subscriptions/

Love that I'm not accidentally clicking on the podcast as I'm scrolling down now :). Appreciate the work you put in mate

I couldn't sleep properly the other night so was scrolling through demonland. Don't think my wife appreciated the demonland podcast accidentally blaring out at full volume at 2am!

Wow. This is Marty McFly stuff

Demonland looks like it did 10 years ago when i first got a Smartphone!!

2020 has been too weird...

A very brutal screen with far too much dominance of the various updates on the right of the screen which IIRC were at the bottom of the page.

Good luck but sorry don't like it.

Looking a lot better this morning. Last night the right hand highlights section was taking up almost half my screen.

Now it looks back to normal size.

Thanks

Much appreciate all the work you do in maintaining this forum @Demonland so definitely no complaints.

But one tiny point. The notifications alerts now include reactions from other posters rather than just quotes.

Understand that it's fairly standard practice but these alerts are designed to drive addictive behaviour.

Haven't watched The Social Dilemma yet but reading up on the subject always makes me feel highly uneasy.

Anyway, maybe it's something minor to consider from an ethical perspective if you have the ability to alter.

I also respect that you have a business to run in a highly competitive advertising environment.

(Please note - removing the reaction alert is just my personal navigational preference - other posters may love it).

I'll check and see if this is a global setting but it could also be a setting within your own profile.

I didn't change anything in regards to that it must be a new forced feature.

There is bound to be an off switch for that either in the forums settings or your own notification settings.

Great work Andy, just flicked another $50 your way, it’s been noticeable how the standard MFCSS meltdowns haven’t crushed the servers!

never a bad time to remind people that there is a donate button

Thank you very much. It really is very much appreciated especially during these times.

We fixed those server issues a about a month to 6 weeks ago. Last week post game really tested it. People were not happy.

Can you elaborate? The site doesn't look very different to what it did yesterday.

All these changes cost money, so another couple of pineapples donated to keep this great site running.

Thanks for all the work.

I'm not seeing an 'Edit' option on my posts.

I use Firefox if that is of any help.

Software changed this. Not sure why. I’ll get used to it eventually.

A trivial question:  How should we interpret the 'Laughing/Ha Ha' reaction icon?

The Old and new software don't credit it as a +1 in the 'Community Reputation'.  I've noticed that most of the time posters use it as a +'ve as they like the humour rather than a -'ve 'ha ha, that is sarcastic' type response.  I'm sure the funny people don't care whether they get credit but should I change to using 'Like' rather than 'Ha Ha' in acknowledging witty posts?

I actually changed that a while ago. The emoticon has a duel purpose; it can be used for acknowledging someone for a witty remark or to denote sarcasm or to laugh at someone for making a foolish remark.

I didn’t think it was right for someone to gain forum reputation for constantly saying idiotic things.

I know that sucks for the genuinely funny people.

I'm really invested in this trivial conversation now. Does forum reputation bestow any benefits? Don't we all just assess reputation ourselves and collectively? What is reputation? I would be happy for my snarky laugh responses to hand over a reputation point to a notorious poster if it meant my chuckles awarded others. Wouldn't it even out over time anyway?

I had used the 'Ha Ha' icon for this post but worried you might think I was ridiculing your comments so changed it to 'Like'.?

@Demonland This is a wonderful site, forum and community. The Gameday threads provide a lot of added entertainment and outlet during our games, and I've learned a lot about the tactical and operational sides of the game from the many discussions herein and on the Podcast.

Thanks for your ongoing work.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
