If you were capable of learning lessons, the bolded bit is the key here, and would impact your final line.

What do you expect from someone who makes ridiculous judgements on 18 & 19 year olds after a handful of games.

All sizzle no sausage. Goes to ground way too easy. Roves to the wrong spots. If he had Spargos smarts he would be a killa dilla.

Im putting my hand up. i really thought he was being gifted games and I was mistaken. Mea Culpa. No excuse.

We did 8 for 26 and a future first. Then did 8 for 10 and 28.

Pick 8 was really just a placeholder as we moved up a year in the draft.

Assuming we did the first trade with the second trade in mind the whole time we really shouldn't even worry about Serong. We can also likely assume we would've taken Rivers all long with the 2nd round pick.

So Pickett vs Tom Powell who North took this year and will be a very good player. Who knows how it works out but it looks like we made a clever move to get in to the draft at the right spot and target a needs based selection that was also the right price. I'm hoping our list is more balanced in the future and we don't need to make needs based picks with high picks but if we are to do it we did it the right way.

Will this be another one to come back and bite us? Pickett getting a lazy 4 disposals with Serong getting 22 last week.

How did they go today?

And if you mention Serongs 22 disposals make sure to mention the 9 clangers.

Both players are what both clubs needed, we needed a Pickett player more than another midfielder.  Mid's are easy to find and draft, every year. Players like mozzie, not so much.

The Anti-Oracle speaks and the opposite happens.

So it is and always shall be.

Amen.

Both clubs needed a crowd pulling superstar and only one club got one. And it wasn't Freo.

Yes Rivers was part of the trade however this smells like Kelly/Tyson all over again.

Would die for some class like Serong up forward right now, the game on Monday will be interesting

He is a mid forward, classy in the Robbie Gray mould. Would have Melksham or Fritsch out of the team

Look at it this way, would you prefer Garlett or Robbie Gray on our list? Right now Spargo is out performing Kozzie.
I am not saying I don’t think he should be in the team, I am saying I feel pick 8 was too much and should have gone towards potential A grade class like Serong who we have missed now.

We have heavily overrated our lists talent and gone for icing instead of cake. We desperately need more talent in our team across all lines

We had pick 8 mate, from North...just like we had pick 2 before trading it for Tyson. We had every chance to take Serong as we did Kelly.

Must be embarrassing always being wrong Dazzle and using multiple accounts to troll.

My god what an absolute spanner! (Could say worse but I'll be kind) This folks is what happens when you support another team but attempt to troll.

Kozzy Pickett right now is one of the up and coming stars of the comp. Not only that, his work rate and fitness is phenomenal. Jason Dunstall was glowing praise of how hard he worked. His not just flashy but an incredible hard worker off the ball.

His goal where he started the handball chain from the wing was a great lesson to young juniors out there what work rate looks like. A fine example that you're simply never out of the game.

I still don’t understand the need to go back and revisit and review old drafts.. who did what and who could have been. We should just be grateful and humble that we are now getting more right that we are wrong.

Lmao captain hindsight with so much time on his hand here after a win. Love it

I can do it to, who from this conversation was it who originally called out on DL we should target Pickett? (Hint: Not DD)

Because there is a lesson out of all this..

Don't write off first year's players immediately after watching one game. It shows a great level of disrespect on a young 18 year old trying to find his way in the AFL system in their first year.

This is why I'm really happy having Jake Bowey just quietly developing his game at Casey ( and playing really well too). Melbourne of 4 years ago would see the likes of Bowey and Laurie playing round 1 immediately.

Look at James Jordon. Spent the last two years developing his game in the VFL and is now a walk up best 22 and making an immediate impact in the best team in the team as we speak.

How would you know that we are getting them right if you don’t look back at them?

Also, DD is highlighting a trade that is now a testament to the work the club has done to maximise our ability to get talent.

On that note, thinks it’s time to spin up a ‘bring back Mahoney” thread

You could just say "sorry, my mistake I got it wrong Pickett is a gun".

And why do you pretend that the Kelly trade was for Tyson without mentioning Salem.

Both trades are big wins for us.

...and sometimes you don't know how a trade really pans out until the end of a players career.

The Kelly/Tyson/Salem pick trade is a case in point...We have been smashed in the media by the likes of Damien Barrett and even our very own 'olisik' but the balance is starting to tip in our favour.

Currently I would pick Salem ahead of Kelly but lets wait and see how the scale tips over the next 5 years.

Hey Dazzle. It wasn’t really in reference to the discussion above. But for years, we have stewed over the likes of Kelly and Wines. Sometimes it borders on obsession. I agree,  some are way to quick to write players off. Some players need time, a new position or even better support from team mates playing their roles.

Oli and Dr get it wrong? Who would have thought? What a player he is the most exciting player in the league. Taylor is a genius.

... or Hunt, who we also got with the pick that came back in the trade.

Or that Tyson (who was poor but still serviceable) was effectively swapped for Preuss and the later Preuss trade helped us get B.Brown.

Kelly trade is the gift that keeps on giving.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
