We'll be spending 125% of the cap if we try and pull that one off.

I’ll freely admit to not knowing in detail how TPP and caps etc work but if GWS don’t have to spend on Cameron then they pay Tmacs contract should he end up there.
If we don’t have to pay Tmacs contract, we have enough cap to throw at Polec and Brown?

Totally agree Steve - I was more taking the pizz with that post as Brown will be on decent coin and we know Polec is on a large contract.

I reckon we'll have to get all of Tom's wages off our books and get North to pay some of Polec's contract if we're any chance.

If we can get picks for Phillips, I reckon he's the cheaper (with less baggage) version to compliment Smith.

I'd of course take all three if the cap was not a reality, but it is and we need to find a small forward or two at other clubs as well.

I assume we're putting a healthy contract extension in front of Oliver too and even Petracca. There's only so much money to go around.

Yes please to all three.

I have never been huge on Polec but he could get his [censored] together and be a gun on the wing for us.

GWS doing us a huge favour by taking T mac.

They will have a massive hole in their TPP now with so many wanting out and need to pay someone - draftee's unlikely to resolve the issue for them, - I think they are well served for KPF even with Cameron leaving, but they may want some insurance there and down back with Corr going as well.

Why do people think we're going to take 2 wingman? If there are 3 that are available/getable we'd only be going after one wouldn't we. Realistically and not in a Dees fans fever dream of having an abundance of the once rare wingman.

I bet that's exactly what each of the three [censored] clubs he's been at have thought.

He needs to stay very clear of MFC, absolute plague of a player.

Hannan and Oscar were both on reasonable coin i believe so both leaving would take a bit of pressure off things, Tmac is the big one, he's on A grader $$ i reckon if the Giants were willing to take on his salary we'd ask for very little in a trade.

Getting two wingman allows us to play one off half back and one on the opposite wing to Langdon. The reason I like the idea of a third new wingman is improving our ball movement playing one forward of centre on a half forward flank. We'd also have genuine depth for the wing position all of a sudden.

As for ages, Smith won't be around for long, so having Phillips and Polec to compliment Langdon, would give us 5+ years of service on our wings.

Would we be stretching the friendship if we got them to take Oscar as well? I mean it would keep the brothers together for starters.

Moving TMac on without having to pay any of his wages next year would be an unbelievable outcome. Asking for something in return would be really pushing our luck.

Short answer.

Just not sure if Polec will cost too much ($ not picks).

While I'm all for getting Brown and Polec in the one transaction, no way would I give up a future 1st rounder for them!

McDonald to Essendon or Collingwood for a 3rd rounder and use that pick with Pick 23 to North for Brown and Polec is a bit more like it.

What happens to Polec's contract?

No. If Phillips is available, then he’s cheaper in terms of draft picks # and contract $$$.  Polec still has question marks over why he is looking at a 4th club now.  I’m a No on Polec as it stands today.

Pick 18 for Brown and Polec?  I could be OK with that  ?

seriously though, we don't need Polec's wages and I don't rate him.  I'd prefer we do the second rounder for Brown as a stand alone deal.

North will have salary cap to burn. They don't need to get Polec's salary off their books, they'd rather pay some of it and get early picks.

Potentially could be 2021 1st and TMac for Brown and Polec, with a chunk of TMac’s and Polec’s wages paid by North.

As much as first round picks are important, cap space is the most important asset in a world with free agency.

Norf likely to have to pay for some of his salary if he moves ...

And the GWS list manager says they are not interested in Tom. Love this time of year.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
