Geelong bound isn’t he? If not and if Jones doesn’t play on, why not? We don’t have many ‘mature’ steady hands.

That's what I've heard too, and he is a Geelong boy originally... like Rohan... Danger... Dahlhaus.... etc.

McDonald has 2 years left and I’d be imagining they’d be asking us to make 700k become a whole lot less. Over the course of the contracts you’re talking well over 1M saved. Add in the top 25 pick they’ll get from Brown and it’s adding up to a big difference.

They’re also likely to draft a young key forward who would take the spot if not immediately then well before Brown’s contract is up.

It’s best viewed as 2 different deals. First is to decide Brown isn’t a long term part of the future. Second is to decide on who they can find as cheap mature age depth. The options for mature depth forwards are incredibly limited. Hence why we have Mitch Brown.

We need a long term 50 goaler to assist Weid to become a 35/40 goaler as well.

Ben B is a chance and Joe D also BUT the money asking may be prohibitive hence the discussion on Tom Mac as his salary is similar and each could offset the other at the two Clubs.

Another Mitch Brown is only depth not a future FF for 2/3/4 years!

Had a north supporter say to me today it will be a swap, I said only if they pay half of polars wage.
Whilst I would be against the swap, reckon Polacs wage would need to change.

Both Tom  and Polec Salary are about $600/700,000 so could cancel each other's out instead of each Club paying say  $250,000 Out on each deal over 2 years.

That game against Carlton he was meant to be tagging Cripps apparently....it is why he got dropped.

He is an outside player and i think he would actually compliment our side pretty well on the other wing.  i can imagine him having a fallout with Shaw if he is asking him to tag inside midfield bulls, it is not his thing.

Will be his last chance at a 4th AFL club.  He will be desperate to make it work.  Easily in our best 22, massive upgrade for our wing opposite Langdon.  Be silly not to interview him especially if North are going to pay fair portion of his wage.

Tempting. Well stated.

Polak? mmmmm.....no thanks.

I'm still having nightmares about the the $800k per year for Tomlinson.

That was a good move.....not!

Tomlinson is on not much more than 400k fwiw....800k?? Where did you get that from??

He made it up. For example, we're paying Goodwin $46 million a year.

So you're saying Merrett is the vomit, or you're saying our midfield is already the vomit? Given you've said the cake is made of vomit, I presume you're saying the midfield...

I think he is saying with Merrett the cake would become vomit.

Eg. chocolate mud cake with pickled onion icing?

To get back to the thread. I would love to see Polec on the opposite wing to Langdon, bot not dissimilar players and would solve a glaring outside run issue!

This is gunna come down to price, if North are willing to pay a portion of his Salary and accept a later pick, i suspect Polec will be a Demon in 2021. i'm sure we've got a price in our head and if they're willing to meet us, great, if not. we've got other options as well

While $ price might be an issue the traded value is where it can be 'offset' ie a lesser draft pick/player/package.  Sydney accepted extreme unders in draft picks for Hannebury, Rohan etc just to get the $ off their books.  GWS did the same to move the $ for HWSNBN and Patton.

We may need to do the same with TMac:  Take a lower draft pick or pay some of his salary for several years.

It comes down to whether sal cap space is worth more than draft pick.

There is no way North could be remotely close to paying the minimum salary cap this year given how poor their list is, so I can't see that Polec's salary will be issue here. If North are desperate to get him off their list, they can pay half his wage and take a third round pick. Otherwise he stays and receives $700K a year to play VFL for the next three years.

Randomly looking through North's bigfooty page and saw this..

Someone rang up Adelaide radio yesterday saying he’s spoken to Jared’s brother who had told him Jared was going to be traded to Melbourne.

If true, I wonder if we could get our 1st round pick back, by giving something and helping out with more of his contract than we would like to.

If you are a bit unsure about Polec can I suggest you go back and watch the highlights from our Round 23 game against North in 2019. I was in Hobart for that one and I remember watching Polec that day and thinking "This bloke is exactly what we lack". In a 5 point win for North he had 29 possessions and kicked 2 goals 2 in a BOG display in which he was the difference. I just remember his ball use being really good on a windy day where others struggled to hit targets.

Maybe my judgement is clouded by this display, but if he can bring some of that to the table, well I'm in.

Has some real "personality" issues and was not highly regarded by Port teammates despite his ability.

Easy to be seduced by the possibility of filling the other wing position, but at what cost culturally?

Hope to hell we know what we are doing if the rumors are correct about MFC making a play.

I recall Troy Chaplin leaving on bad terms too? Maybe Port were onto something.

I'm a little over the "good citizen" argument re whether we should bring in a player or not.

Where has recruiting choir boys got us over the last couple of decades?

I want footballers.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
