As a testament to our defence: we've only conceded double-digit goals three times all year (West Coast, Richmond, Port).

Gold Coast scored 9.9, highest score other in our remaining six games is 7.11 (Carlton and Brisbane).

Post-game glow fading. Wish I had little Charlie Spargo next to me so I could ruffle his hair a little bit.

Petracca was interviewed post-game and was asked what had changed since the Port game. He said defence.

IMO, it's been noticeable (and was improving prior to the Port game too).

We've got far more defensive running from our mids, better pressure in the front half, and our back half structure is so much better and improves every week.

I agree on Pickett. I think he's close to ripping a game completely open. He fumbles too much but he's so often in the right spot, he's got a surprisingly good tank for a first year player, and his workrate is spot on. All things I'm sure the FD rate.

I just don't get it with Smith.

I don't think we can go into a game with Weideman and Smith as our two key forwards.

I think it has to be Weideman and TMac, and if not TMac, then Brown, unless/until Jackson is fit. I don't think we can risk putting Smith in as a second tall forward when he's so loose and untrustworthy.

Smith is useless, if we have ti bring him back into the side we are not traveling to well.

Big plus tonight is not worrying if we have a backup ruckman.

Gee that was enjoyable!
I’ve flown down to Melbourne to see many queens birthday losses over the last 10 years (bar Watts running goal to seal it, special).

Pies supporters were leaving during the 4th quarter tonight. The Dees fans all up and about. Was so good being there and knowing we had the game sealed during the final quarter so could sit back and enjoy it! Dees song belting out around the Gabba after the final siren.

You beauty! Go Dees!

Remember Eddies statement that playing Cottonwool was "Melbourne's GF"

As it turns out  it for Collliwobbles spot it the 8!

If playing Collingwood is Melbourne's Grand Final no wonder we won

6-1

What a difference it makes having Weid in the forward 50 clunking marks.

WEEEEEEEEEED

Bravo to Ed Langdon, tiny blemish in last quarter but superb all told.

Just need mids to work out clearances now.

Love the new stream lined Preuss and the cheeky little chap Spargo. The mountain and the mole hill.

We've beaten three depleted teams in a row

Granted, we won and won well as we should have - which is better than losing

But let's wait until we replicate this a few times against better sides before we get carried away

I agree but that's for tomorrow. Tonight I'm gonna enjoy belting the Pies by 10 goals ????

Tonight's game aside, we've lost to the other 5 teams we've played above us

We've beaten 12, 13, 15, 17, 18  as well as a depleted Pies at 7

I'm happy, just not getting carried away

We've improved our ball movement dramatically since playing Richmond and Geelong. They are both playing better too but I still feel we lost those games rather than they won. The Lions game was there for the taking too.

The Port game is the one really poor performance this year, even the West Coast game way back in March we were beaten by a better team but I don't think we were embarrassed.

I'd like to see us back it up against the Dogs and Saints in the next couple of weeks as well but I think we've been relatively consistent this year Port game aside.

Hope you enjoyed that one @DemonOX and all our other QLD-based Demons who made it along tonight. ✊

I certainly did AF.

What a great game. One of the best 4 qrt games I have seen live in a long time.

Preuss was great. To come in to his first game since early last season and perform like he did is a credit to him.

Trucks goal from the boundary line was absolutely sublime.

The midfielders all worked well together too.

Me and the kids belted out the song loud and proud about 3 times after the game.

Special night and it was great for my kids to see us perform like that which they haven’t seen often at all.

I agree on our consistency.

The Adelaide and North games were hard to get a read on because of how poor they both were.

Today, we were on top of Collingwood from the outset. Wasn't just us running over the top late. We were strong from the start.

The Port game is the only bad game we've played since the Richmond game, and neither the Richmond nor Geelong games were terrible.

However, the fact that we failed to pick up either of the Geelong or Brisbane games means we don't have much choice but to back this up again vs the Dogs and likely again the week after vs St Kilda. If we go 0-2, we'll then need to win all four of our final games to get to 10 wins. If we can even go 1-1 the next fortnight, that then lets us go 3-1 in the final four to make it to 10 and play finals.

These are two big tests for us. The Dogs might make me seem silly tomorrow when they play Adelaide but IMO they're better than their recent formline suggests. When they get going they're hard to stop. And we all know we stink against St Kilda when they're average, let alone when they're in the top 4.

Sure beats getting pantsed by them !!

We are going in the right direction......

Collectively what the past three opposition teams have scored in the last quarter

My two daughters are ‘legitimately’ asking why I’ve started calling them Steven and May.

Treloar gets the ball 28 times and turns it over 25 times, De Goey didn't do much all year prior to injury and then Howe is a blow to backline. Personally I didn't see them as being depleted, 1 good defender short and thats it.

Your actually quite correct. Howe was a loss but not much outside of that.  De Goey massively overrated.

You didn't see De Goey rip the Cats to shreds before his injury layoff?

Was a standard vB game. Went hard at every contest, put his body on the line, had almost as many clangers and turnovers as he had disposals.

Find it bizarre that people rate his game today because he accidentally knocked out a player.

For me Lord it’s the way goes at the ball and tackles. He does turn it over but geez the opposition look twice when he is around.

He is a brick wall and that marking attempt where he knocked out the Collingwood player typifies this.

He also got a knock from his own teammate and it was a heavy knock right in front of us and shook it off and kept going.

Dogs will be a real test. They have the pace to worry us.  Contested footy will be exactly that.  Bony Macrae Libba v Viney Oliver Petracca. Bring it on !

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
