I agree with you that Jesse has been through more adversity than most in his life, but what is he to do if Freo aren't playing him?

He is reportedly training and fit, but Freo are overlooking him at the selection table and apparently trialling him as a defender. If he doesn't get a game this week or the next couple of weeks, you have to wonder what Freo are doing... He is too good to be playing in the reserves.

Obviously all rumour and speculation right now, but if there is disharmony between Hogan and Freo, and Peter Bell decides to trade him at season's end, not wholly implausible to suggest he may make a return to Melbourne FC. The only other possibility which would preclude Melbourne would be if he were to go to West Coast.

Total speculation and all of the above probably won't happen. I don't see Freo trading Hogan at the end of the year, but if it were to eventuate, Melbourne surely has a chance.

Yeah we're all speculating, and totally get where you're coming from. My opinion is the factors that meant we were willing to trade him have only gone downhill (obviously guessing from the outside) plus his form is a mess. Just can't see us making a play for someone we were keen to trade out when they're not even as good a player anymore.

Given Kennedy's age you wouldn't put the Eagles out of the picture, but it feels a little like Freo or bust at the moment.

In saying all that, he's a young bloke, he's a competitor, he may get the wake up call he needs and turn it around.

Interesting player. Creative half back wingman who is very good by foot and would be up with Salem as our best ball user.

Who else we looking at @Dannyz?

You know more about him than I but sounds positive.

I don't think there is much else on the trade agenda.

Agree, and I think he will turn it around too. I always thought he would have a slow start at Freo given his circumstances. He is a supremely talented footballer, so I expect we will see him soon (at least I hope we do!).

the filth

definitely tom phillips; right where we want him in terms of age (25 in 2021), role (outside runner with decent footskills), and ability (he's played some ripper games, particularly on the g). still in contract so can't see them being keen on losing him, but they have a lot of talent - and a lot of father-son talent - coming through that needs games and can play similar roles. would the crocked tom langdon want to play with his brother? pies' backline has been their strength and while langdon is in his pre-agency year i'd be in his ear telling him about darren burgess and how he'll be playing with his brother. the situation with jaidyn stephenson is really interesting; keeping a keen eye on that one as he's clearly a talent. pies are one team who DO need points - they've got quite a few father-sons coming thru, with nick daicos already being talked up - so we could get some things out of them that would benefit our side and help them

preferences: stephenson, phillips, langdon

possible trade: hawks' 2nd in 2020 PLUS our 2nd in 2021 for langdon and phillips

We missed Phillips in “both” his draft years. Was a steal for the Pies. Absolute steal as he was a very good wingman in under 18s. Not surprised with his success. We’d need to give Pies something like our 2nd round 2020 pick we got of Hawks but that might not be enough. I like the Langdon move for a 2021 future pick.

i wonder if we're any chance to prize Jack Gunstan out of Hawthorn?

Sorry BW but overrrating him and his tenure.

Gus Fritta Kossie Rivers Hibbo Melky Spargo and Jones all are entitled to be on our list now and mostly except Jonesy and maybe  Hibbo for 2021.

Zac Williams better option and our run and carry as a team is improving by the game.

This did not age well

Daniel McKenzie at St.Kilda was mentioned on the AFL site, can't break into the Saints 22 because:

"But the rapid growth of young defenders Hunter Clark, Ben Paton and Nick Coffield – along with the transformation of Ben Long into a damaging half-back – have the No. 36 just on the outer."

Here's a story about his re-contract and he sounds like he has some attributes we could use - toughness, pace, lock-down.

Richo would have the necessary insight.

I would definitely like to see us entertain a trade for Preuss if teams come knocking.

The Giants are crying out for a ruckman, with Mumford and Jacobs pretty much cooked.

They have an abundance of high quality mids, so this could be a win-win for both clubs.

Good thing is he is contracted so we hold the upper hand in discussions.

We can easily then go pick up a mature age ruckman as a back up to Gawn. Plus we have Jackson and Bradtke both developing (very different stages of development)

id be looking at an Isaac cummings off HB for the giants was picked round 1 pre lockdown clearly they know hes skilled then dropped and has been out with a hammy since 4yrs in the system could be a handy pickup

Ditto. Isaac Cumming can’t crack into the Giants team due to Zac Williams.  He has real talent and zip. I’d be willing to trade Preuss to Giants for Cumming. That’s smart for both clubs.

I think most would, but I'm not so sure we can afford him, especially if Norf are throwing bags of cash at anyone who glances in their direction.

1 hour ago, whatwhatsaywhat said:

why not both. especially if list sizes r cut. Williams comes on a free and a straight swap just about works for both players and clubs as they have a serious log jam of talented players trying to stay on the list

Yes I think Norfff are looking at 5 years and $600k a year. That’s Jake Lever like money for a running fast skilled high possession defender ?????????

Happy to trade man for man - keep 3 draft picks as list likely to be cut from 45 to 40    ( delist 8 players)

Preuss for Isaac Cummings (Giants) fits need for pace and run especially out of defence

Joel Smith for Mason Wood (Kangas) fits need to find skilled players to hit targets

Neal-Bullen for Willem Drew (Power) fits need for pace and run

Hunt for Daniel Mckenzie (Saints) for strong reliable half back - would look to come into Hibberds current role

Reckon we’d ‘win’ trade period then proceed to finish 14th after that shopping spree

I'm surprised you weren't one of them, given the amount of trash you post.

Such as? Just because I call it as I see it. You probably look at our list and coach through rose coloured glasses. we came from 4th to 17th to 9-12th. Someone's got to keep us accountable. You'd probably send Oliver to Casey and extend goody's contract.

Reckon we could have a look at Matthew Ling from the Swans. High draft pick. Lightning quick and a precise left foot kick.

Has had Achilles and toe problems. Debuted this year. Only 21 and may appreciate a move back to Victoria

How about this beauty from you? "When we win, we win despite Goodwin, not because of him.

You're not holding anyone to account mate. You're not inside the club. They're not listening to you. You're on a football forum. It's not match committee.

Gotcha

In fairness Spirit those names you raised are a bit cringe to be honest.

Mason Wood for instance is rubbish. Norf supporters will tell you he is a spud. He tested the market last year and got bo bites. In 5 games this years he's averaged 8 disposals per game....  You want Hunt traded, only to then bring in a very soft an average footballer? Don't understand your logic here. The glaring fact is he can't even get a game in one of the worst teams of the year.

Willem Drew is plain and simple and inside mid. Hes someone else who's had a lot of injury issues and hasn't even played a game this year? Who does he get a game in front of Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw? again, he's not a need at all and just adds an unbalance to our mid bringing in someone like him.

Cummings I don't rate at all. Only played 5 games in 4 years.. depth at best.

Only one I would look at is definitely Sinclair. 25 years at 92 games so he fits that demographic perfectly. Can play wing and across half back. Adds experience and run. Hoping we're looking at him closely.

For me I hope we are looking at Perryman and potentially Xavier O'Halloran. I was a hupe wrap for XOH in his draft year. Plays very similar to Shaun Higgins.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
