A short week then 4 days later,  both games need to be treated together, but aiming to have our best result for both

Jones is done,  TMac is done, at least for this match, if they smarten up maybe back for the Kangeroos

Brayshaw in the middle,   working at big Maxy's feet     and Viney can move through the fwd line

OUT:  Jones,  TMac,   and 2 of Fritsch, Harmes, Hannan,

IN: Bennell, Rivers, vandenBerg,  ANB or Tomlinson,    maybe keep AVB for the North game

Maybe swap Rivers and Lockhart for one of these two games.  maybe ANB to the wing and Tomlinson to a HFF,  We will also need to look at when we should play Spargo, Bedford, Brown, Dunkley, Chandler and anyone who is not injured. Fresh legs against a team that's only had a four day break might be very telling in the last quarter.

Interesting times.....

I Like this 640MD. Vandeburg isnt a great disposer but gee he hardens up the team like no other.

Jones and Tmac are nevr to be picked this year.

i've tempered my expectation of five changes from earlier in the week, still think we need to make some statements at selection however

OUT: jones, brayshaw, t mac
IN: bennell, tomlinson, avb

Sam Edmund just said on SEN that gawn is in doubt for the crows game.

Having scans. Does know what the scans are for.

Bring in Preuss and make May captain. Max is your pal. We need a captain they fear.......Ronald Dale would have torn strips off these weakies, and on the field for all to see.

If Gawn is out then tmac stays in and him and jackson can share the ruck, not the worst time to give Gawn a rest anyway. I don't think he would have been the difference between winning and loosing this week anyway

The silver lining could be that it galvanises the midfield and they find a little more dynamism, like the forward line in 2018 when Hogan was out.

If Omac makes the team, he is on watch.

He was completely owned by an 18 year old kid in the first quarter of that last game.

@binman I noticed a chuckle at this, and am pretty sure it wasn’t a genuine one. I know you’re a staunch defender of Omac, and believe me, I’m not one of the ones who pile on the guy, but maybe you can set me straight; I saw two very clear incidents where Georgiades deftly gave Omac the slip and found plenty of space. The first, resulting in the first goal of the match. If you look at the replay of that mark, one can very clearly see an Omac not knowing where his opponent is or where he himself should be, until the ball was marked. I get that good forwards do this to defenders regularly, but an 18-year old? C’mon. What am I missing here?

Bring on the big Pruessy!!!

Might be wrong, but don't think he's quite ready yet.

I actually don't totally hate the idea of us having to change it up in the middle. Makes us less predictable. We went on a bit of a run a few years back with Watts and Pedersen doing the rucking I seem to remember?

Agree but thought he was injured.

Nah he's been fine since April. I fact he played the last 2 scratch matches when the club was still in Melbourne.

He'd be fresh and ready to go.

Gawn being out isn't the end of the world. Might actually make our mids think twice and work even extra harder without the silver service.

Round 5 Injury Update | Preuss ready to return

Get up to date with Melbourne’s injury news ahead of Round 5

By Ben Gibson on Jun 30, 2020, 1:18pm

Braydon Preuss, who has been sidelined with an Achilles injury, will look to get some minutes under his belt in the club’s practice match, as he takes to the field for the first time since returning from isolation.

LJ, Tmac, Weid, Preuss -  even Tomlinson - have the options to replace. Good thing we're playing the bottom 2 sides.

As mentioned above, may offer some good unpredictability

Will also force our players to look for (and hopefully find) other contested mark options. And Stephen May will have to spend the week considering who else to kick out to.

Not great news if he misses a couple of weeks. But I think it could actually help in a few different aspects. For one it will force Goodwin to change some tactics, it might also help the midfielders get some better space from one another at stoppages, it will certainly mean the opposition don’t spend all week working on reading Max’s hit outs and hopefully if Tom Mcdonald rucks it will almost force him to find the ball.

Or it will be recipe for a disaster and Goodwin has an excuse that our Captain was out and we lacked leadership.

Posted

Jeez when you hear Max and scans....

and then 2 weeks, its a wave for relief for me.

It will freshen him up and make the team more accountable.  if we cant beat the next 2 teams without Max we are screwed anyway

Actually, I think we're now a stock to buy. The President's public comments which I assume were made after he'd made some private ones to Goodwin and Mahoney have given the club an opportunity to make some bold choices for our next game. I had earlier suggested three changes; I now think there will be five so as to send a message.

In: Tomlinson, vandenBerg (if fit), Rivers, Bennell and Jordan. If vandenBerg isn't ready, one of Bedford or Hunt.

Out: Pickett, Jackson, Jones, Harmes, Hannan

Jackson must stay and possibly Pickett.

If for some reason 5 is the magic number, Gus and tmac.

Tommy still out for mine.

Either Pruess into the ruck sharing with Jackson.

or

Tomlinson in with Jackson.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
