From that extended bench I hope we take in Lockhart, Pickett, Brayshaw, Jetta.

Smith should play forward or warm the bench.

They probably won’t push Smith forward I think as he has trained down back all preseason, so am hoping they go with Jackson to give us at least 2 talls up forward and take some heat off Fritsch and Melk.

Yes BUT if that was the case why in the hell did they pick him for the Blues game. Surely he's MORE match fit now than back 2 weeks. Got me beat as I reckon if he plays at 80%  fitness he beats most of our other players.

I can only suggest that when they reviewed that game and the way we fell away in the second half, they decided we aren't in a position to carry a player who isn't 100% match fit.

It might be as simple as load management. X number of games & training sessions in Y number of days until he's back to somewhere near 100%

Might be some opposition analysis as well. They perhaps figured they could get away with 50% game time from HB against Carlton but not against the Cats. I've no evidence for that - it's just me throwing a dart at the answer board

Not me that is for sure, they have said all along that he would be managed.

I have Fence on ignore so clearly a no from me.

Lockhart has to play.

10changes since rd1, selection seems to be based on emotional decisions, good news stories.. odd selections over the last 18 months.

An accurate throw i suspect. They want Harley in primo shape for the finals not round four

3 And half minutes into the 'all the goals' video, Brayshaw in the 1s with his helmet on

I missed that, but that's certainly positive for him and eases my concerns.

I expect only one of Lockhart/Jetta to get a spot. Could be in for a surprise here. I don't expect to see Hibberd.

I also expect Jackson and Pickett to play.

I'm therefore guessing we'll see a bench of Jackson, PIckett, Lockhart/Jetta and Brayshaw.

ANB, Hibberd, Jones and Lockhart/Jetta to miss.

Jacksons out budday

The surprise is why was he not "managed" last week.

Yes you can say load management but if he was best 22 for the match against Essendon he could have played this week.

A minor chuckle in the continuing saga that is the MFC

Probably a sign of how the coaches/selection panel view the opposition.........

Carlton play 2 first gamers and have the cheek to play a 50% game time " half fit" Bennell (not a slight on him), that alone is a fairly ALPHA move by goody.

and if you follow that line of thinking it probably explains out selection V Essendon.

to then confirm how damaging Geelong can be if you  don't get your match-ups right, well that just how it looks to me

I reckon its Pickett, Brayshaw, Lockhart, Jackson.

Jetta is a step off and I think they are very keen to get Lockhart into the side. I think we need a touch more height at the G and Jackson is the only additional height.

whY!!!! Do YoU have him ON iGnore??!! That’s craZY, GoodLOSS has lost the pLot!!!!!!!! Who’s with ME???!!!!!!

So AVB and Hannan are certain starters, I hope Lockhart is also.

Update: Our forward line seems too small, does Jackson stay?

MANAGED??? how can he not play and be "Managed" through circle work??? Nar Garbage.. Something is up!!

Without doubt something happened last weekend which caused doubt about Bennell.

FWIW I woukd play Jackson again. He wasn’t too bad v Blues, shows all the promise. Play him alongside the FF, this requiring a Cats tall to play on him, we need his height.

Funny you should say that. I said almost exactly the same thing to a dees supporting mate tonight.

Added that Geelong have one oldest lists, with tough seasoned players, particularly down back who will take their chances to hit hard.

I reckon their plan was aleays give him a run in the first two games then rest him against the cats.

All I can think about is Balls “omitting” Terry in Round 2 of 1988. The fact Rodney couldn’t play the following week still makes no sense to me either..

Keep Jacko we are too small. So the interchange for me is Jetta, Jackson, Pickett, Brayshaw

I’d suggest with VDB and Hannan in plus Melky, Fritz and Pickett in our forward half the pressure went up on Harleys spot and his omission makes sense...

it’s early days, Harley was tentative (justifiably) vs Carlton and we need more physical and defensive pressure, An aspect all of those mentioned above do currently bring to our forward half.

with our ruck and ideally midfield dominance, that forward line should make it hard for the Cats to get it out in Sunday...

The explanation was nonsensical.

Melk & Hannan couldn't catch a cold let alone lay a tackle...forward pressure is neither's strong suit.

AVB is physical but skills are average.

Unfortunately that comes back to Goodwin’s inability to just be himself and speak logically to the media.

“Yeah, he’ll be fully fit, he’ll be ready to go...” being his initial (rubbish) response, followed by the half decent response to the question.

All he had to say was that he could play this weekend, but the club are managing his return, despite his eagerness, to ensure his longevity in the game. 5 second simple response.

Unfortunately Simon isn’t capable of speaking like an average person in front of the media.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
