i think we should manage Jackson the same way Gold Coast and the Saints have done with the King twins.

Give him a year or two in the Magoos and solid gym work before playing him again.

what? Ben King at Gold Coast played 14 game last year in his first season and Max had a knee injury keeping him out for the season.

Yeah Ben King looked fantastic last year in his first season and has looked even better early this season.

Makes a mockery of the 'big men take longer'  theory and makes Weid look even worse.

Yep, I got it wrong.

TMac to me looks like the type of player that takes a while to get to form after an injury setback. We have seen it before. I’ll be patient with him.

All year there is no replacement available.

And right there is the disappointing truth.

I started this thread with asking how long do we wait, obviously Essendon may well have put a crimp in that timeline. From the footage they released on the website from the intraclub match it appeared that Tom was playing a higher CHF role almost borderline wing. Which is fine as it gets him into the game. I just really want to see him clunk some marks, I still have faith the ability to be a good forward is in him, I think he's just down on confidence so he doesn't seem to attack the aerial contests with as much force as he did in 2018.

I’m convinced that Tom is carrying an injury that has slowed him down and hampered his agility. Check out these highlights from just two years ago and, whilst you’d never call him cat-like, he moves a significantly better than what we see today.
Hopefully there is a fix as he looks friggin sensational here

Yep, he was a million dollar player in 2018. Postseason surgery and many injuries later, and he's a shadow. I have no time for those who rubbish him these days. He is a very good player, struck down by ailments not of his making. I wish him all the best, I hope he can regain some confidence and rhythm. If he doesn't, it won't be for the lack of commitment and dedication.

Foot injury ruined him. Be interesting to see if we trade him to Essendon for Saad as touted in media recently.

Tom would look 5hit in an Essendon jumper but then I think everyone looks 5hit in one

I wonder what level of interest Essendon would have in keeping the McDonald brothers together?

If Daninher goes, they are just about empty of genuine tall forwards, whole Hooker and Hurley are both 30+ and a bit banged up.

I'm not talking about some bumper trade value, nor am I writing off the value of either McDonald.

Just looking for a respectful player movement to where they'll get more opportunities.

Interesting bump of my old thread, I really wanted to be wrong and have one of those “eat humble pie” moments but it’s sad to see he is now at stage where he’s behind Jackson and Brown as a picked tall forward.

I wasn’t keen on a switch happening earlier this year because he’s been training g with the forwards, but if he’s still with us next year I think a switch back to defence might be the best option for him.

My concern is Weiderman has been goalless  for 3 weeks plus taking hardly any marks...  Tom  should play in the last game & get as many one on ones for him..  if we happen to make finals we need a marking forward who can create a contest plus his kicking is accurate

Wow... I had legitimately forgotten just how good he looked marking it overhead with confidence - monstered some of those opponents.  Good jump, step and could actually sprint to contests and for those marks...  Watching that it's hard to believe it could be anything but an injury (long or short term) that has derailed him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
