Thing is, if we lose this week the season is pretty much a wash anyway. So might as well look at development and surely he falls into that category.

We need to give the guy a chance to feel comfortable playing CHF, then maybe he can play the type of football that we have seen glimpses of. Hell he cannot do much worse than some of our existing forwards.  If we dont play him then he will be wanting to be traded and we will lose him for a round 3 pick because we dont value him as much as another side will. He is young enough and talented enough to hold down CHF for the dees, so give him a chance.

 

My frustrations with the Weid's development are:

1. He's never really had a consistent run in the VFL to become 'the man'. He had a good stretch in 2018 when he started to find consistent form down a level and that translated in a really nice end to that season. Last year was clearly a disaster. But now that he's healthy he could've had a really strong patch of form in the VFL and convinced everyone that he's a proper goal kicker and reliable target.

2. Apart from runs in the ruck with various success (average in ruck contests, good around the ground) he hasn't had a lot of variety in his development. He's never had a go down back and rarely has been asked to do much of anything particular as a forward as far as I can tell. Usually it's just be the 2nd tall and try to stay out of the way whilst the main tall target and a dangerous (in theory) Melksham type get the forward targets.

Now he's out of VFL or scratch matches so the idea of a consistent run of good form down a level won't happen. Hopefully he gets a consistent run at the top level and a role to play that actually can develop his game.

It's not charity selection if he's taking marks and kicking goals in the only form of practice matches we have available, and the first team is not doing either.

Fagan plays Hipwood. He hardly contributes from week to week and pops up occasionally with a brilliant quarter. also a player who had a very good patch of form in his first or 2nd year, like Weid. Hipwood is getting experience, building a tank, learning what works and doesn't, by being played week to week. Weid is in the same boat and should be played all year for development.

You obviously had your eyes closed for the Geelong and Hawthorn finals then. I'm not saying he should dine out on it and that makes him an automatic selection but it shows he was capable then, he should be capable now. I think a lot of it is confidence.

It hurts to watch this now.  He really put it all together that night.  The hit on Dangerfield really topped it off.

Really hope he comes in this week and launches his career properly.

3 weeks after the whole AFL supporter base has been questioning why these two haven’t been in the team, will the club finally see what everyone else does.

I could see a forward-line of Weide & TMc,  and Brown out at CHF.  With Brown leading up into the midzone,  with Weide and TMc revolving around the F50.

Yep, no point wasting him in the scratch matches and couldn't do any less than Tommy.

Let's see what Weid can do with a consistent rum at it...

I mean this is the other concerning part to our team, Tommy keeps getting a game when he is doing sweet bugger all. I really think that both of them play better when there is another tall option in the team.

We have a massive weakness in our key position players in that we are always exposed aerially. I hope our free agent focus is on people who can address this weakness while we are in possession  of a ball winning midfield.
