What pick can we we get for Weid when we trade him?

He was pick 9 in the staff we will lose on this.

Would be very lucky to get a late third rounder for a talented key forward that we've stuffed up so far.

One of two things are happening:

Either the Weid, somehow, has indicated his intention to be traded at the end of the year so we aren't bothering to play him, or we're making him really earn a spot back in the side.  Some might say that having Jackson, who hasn't set the world alight, in the side is a bit of a slap in the fact, but the bloke has been given his chances.  Perhaps they've told him that to hit some sort of benchmarks in games before they consider him for the senior side?

Nothing wrong with earning your spot.

If he doesn’t get picked this year, then we have a real big problem on our hands.  It’s round 3, so wait and see.

Im personally more concerned by Jackson playing.  For all of the exciting promise he’s shown so far, he is a long way off a senior footballer.

He is contracted for next year? I know that doesn’t mean much any more as far as trades go, but I would say he is being made to earn his recall

He kicked 5 Last week .. He kicked 3 In an elimination vs Geelong! Jackson was so Raw and yet is still preferred

Something is seriously AMISS!

All for this, what has Jackson done to earn his spot? Hardly set the world on fire in the pre-season games, I'm bemused that we are pushing him so early in his development on the back of what exactly?

Yep.

There seems to be a bit of the Jack Watts ‘get some games into him’ attitude at play... hopefully not.

Reductions in list numbers,  2020.?    go home factor.?

I think both Riv and Jacko, will fall in love with the Dees.

And I reckon the club is looking at both Jacko and Weide,  as our two key tall forwards, looking ahead.

Petty will I think,  swing.  He'll probably take-over,  when May is dusted.

If he doesn't get picked against Essendon, we have a big problem.  My take from what could be seen from pre-season games is that Weid did everything that could have been asked/expected of him as an undersized, stand-in ruckman.

If he was left our to build confidence in his ability, then kicking 5 goals in a practice match should achieve that.  Conversely being left out of the side for a barely performing raw 18 yo would destroy it.

I also don't buy him cracking the sads and not wanting to perform unless traded or even telling the club that he wants to be.  It's not exactly a sellers market right now as a player and it's hardly like Weid has established much trade value to go by at this point.  If he did want somewhere else, then he'd probably be better shutting up about it and showing that he can be a player deserving to be sought after.

Edit - that was earlier in the week. I just read today's training thread and it appears he did train. So I have clue.

He did. Old mate Pickett posted a training report that had Weid in it, and he was doing extra work too.

Wrong.  Video shows him marking on the ruck bag in the training thread.  He may not be fit, but he trained.

The only thing that has gone amiss with the Weid has been his lack of improvement since that elimination final. Having said that I did expect him to be selected this week. Can't see who is going to take contested marks up forward.

Don't get the collective panic around Weideman not playing this week. Obviously hadnt shown enough to get picked over Jackson last week, fair enough. Didn't get picked this weekend because of the wet conditions, fair enough. Are we really that desperate that we think this bloke will save our forward line worries having kicked a handful of goals in a game of 14 a side park footy in a magoos team that won by more than 10 goals. I recall people on here were calling for his head after missing that set shot against the Crows not too long ago. Unfortunately hasnt had the opportunity to prove it this year given the circumstances but dont think it warrants any reason to call for him to be traded...

They are saving him for the Cats at the G next week to reprise his 2018 final against them,

Because of the lockdown,  I disagree with this,  'RbG'.

I see it that he was super fit and ready,  then the lockdown happened,  so most players were just fit,  but not match tuned on the return.

So I reckon he is being given an extra scratch match,  to get his game going a bit,  before he gets called up.  Because lets face it,  he is one who is a target for many impatient disbelievers.

So the Weid is being made to earn his position in the team.
Excellent. We will now find out if he really wants to get better

Don't know about the impatient part. he's in his fifth year.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
