Wonderful stat.......

can we have that stat since Goodwin coached please.

The median is Richmond at 31... we are nearly double

Plot all those on a bell curve and we are off the scale............... depressing

We have been a crap side for so long. It would be great if we consistently played finals and gave supporters some sustained success.

Good question

Under Goodwin's Tenure

2016 - 5

2017 - 4

2018-5

2019-7

2020-2* so far

*23 over 4 and a bit seasons.

So that is essentially every 5th game  we will have a scoreless quarter

The previous 4 seasons 2012 yielded the other 34, essentially every 2.5 games.

Hmmm... 5 in '18 and 7 in '19: it looks like it's the OTHER quarters that make the diff!

However, 100% improvement, to better than "median Richmond", under Goodwin. Hmmm...

Are we including 2016? Come to think of it, it actually reads worse since the start of 2017.

Fair point, Zeph - 2 already has us well on track for a number-sequenced 10 this year!?

Oh my God, that is a disgrace.
Journalist’s need to put this to Goodwin

so sick of the “nice” questions at any presser

4th year after a magnificent training regime....

2018 had 14 wins and we were the highest scoring team in the league, with a percentage of 131.4.

These stats in isolation don 't paint a particularly clear picture.

Is it?

21 in the four years under him but 37 in the previous four years.

Mind you neither period was flash and there is little question that Goodwin has a superior list to the 2012 to 2015 period.

Call it what you will there is no evidence to suggest that this game plan overall is more successful than others. 2018 is held up as the golden example but there were a lot of blowout wins that year. The games won factor was not spectacular (although better than our usual) and of course we failed mainly against the better teams.

5, 4, 5, 7... can't see an aberration there... maybe the 7, but that would make 2019 the odd one out.

I personally think this stat is meaningless in isolation... after doing it manually I cannot be bothered to check any other clubs.

However what it does note, is that both through periods of quarters and through entire games 30/60 minutes at a time - either the FD or players do not know or cannot at will stem the tide.

I don't know if its statistically significant more than the majority of other non top4/premiership winning clubs, ie: is Melbourne different from the rest of the comp?

So you and I agree whetherr we had 14 wins or five wins doesnt change the storey

It is, the Roos years team was 20 times worse than the one under Goodwin as you state. I would expect it to be less than that and getting better, not worse, 2 games this year, 2 goalless efforts, one vs Carlton ffs.

what about most quarters won in a row ?

That rings a bell @markc, was that relevant to our barnstorming run in 2018?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
