Let Viney walk in free agency, we get a first round compensation pick, use the cash to get williams. Brayshaw goes back to inside mid, we get a great ball user off half back in williams, and a top 10 pick.

I reckon someone like the saints would give him 650k+ which should be enough for 1st round compo

Need a class ball user, Short, Houston, Whitfield, maybe a mills from Sydney. Recon we missed out on James aish last yr

Aish's ball use at under 18 level was okay, but it doesn't stand up in the big time. He's also as soft as they come.

Reminds me of Jimmy Toumpas

Yeah, they're similar and have always been joined in my head as they both came out of the SANFL as highly touted outside youngsters. I think Aish is softer, but has a better temperament to succeed, which has enabled him to get onto three AFL lists. Or maybe he's just luckier that he didn't land at Melbourne first and have his confidence shot?

As people are mentioning trade targets, Corey Lyons is unable to get a look in at Brisbane. I’ve watched him in NEAFL games and he is very good.  Melbourne boy. Yeah, he has a brother at the Lions but if he wants to play A Grade, he needs to go back home.

Either he plays in the centre square or he doesn't play as hes useless anywhere else.  Same goes with Harmes.  Wake up coach.

I wonder how much development has happened to train either in other positions.  I don't mean experiments of playing them here, there and everywhere like we have over the last 1.5 years.  I mean genuine re-training to maximise their talents to own other positions.

Without setting off the conspiracy theorists around here, we have a recent history of when a player falls out of favour for whatever reason, one way or another they are maneuvered out.  It is something that happens regularly in non-sporting organisations so no reason to think it doesn't happen at football clubs.

It will be our loss if that happens with either.

This bloke doesn’t look interested.

Zero intensity.

I reckon he wants to go to WA with his brothers.

You blokes have gone early. Brayshaw has been good in the 2nd half.

Yes. Grrat finish to the game but would love to see him play well when Melbourne aren't playing well (petracca gawn and viney all seem to be able to do this)

16 touches in the second half for Brayshaw. Started in a lot of centre bounces as well.

Which is where he belongs. Hope this finally convinces them he aint a wingman.

...and all against the bottom side. Needs to do it against the top teams.

Started in the centre square at the opening bounce, I believe.

Had no impact, at all, in the first half. Terrible half.

Improved markedly as the game went on, and that's obviously a good thing, but we must keep in mind our opponent was pathetic.

Needs to back that up next week, and longer term. Hopefully he gets some confidence from how he finished the game.

Hopefully he got confidence from his second half and goes on with it now. First half terrible, second very good. At his best is a real asset for us.

The last quarter especially has been the Brayshaw of old.

Cream must rise to the top.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
