It starts.... Again

Collingwood v Richmond

My main interest will be in the cardboard cut outs and what "celebrities" have snuck under the radar.

Will miss Cox as he is entertaining to watch from a contest viewpoint.

Richmond by 20 if not more

Didn’t like the kneeling.  Looked derivative and tacky to me.

I didn’t like it.

I understand they wanted to do something in solidarity, but it looked tacky and staged; like a Kendall Jenner Pepsi ad.  They were safe and risking nothing.

Do it during the finals when the national anthem plays... then that’d be a real statement.

Watched for about 2 minutes. Thought Howe shirked it going back with the flight of the ball. Game not too interesting yet, might wait till Saturday.

Bruce is trying to pump it up, but it is dead flat

Agreed.

I thought the problem with round one was that the commentators and producers focused too much on how unusual it all was.

Hopefully this time around they focus on the footy and the rest will become part of the ‘new normal’.

The less attention drawn to the differences, the better.

Must say I had to turn it down.  Please give us some less over the top commentary.

Richmond fumbling and Pies taking their chances.

It’s aaalmost ok. Like I said earlier, the sudden mood-shifts from post-goal jubilation into non-plussed ambience are a bit naff. Would be kinda hilarious to watch the sound effects person “mixing” this.

NRL tried a game with the noise then a game without it last week. So much better with the canned crowd.

Howe looks chit.

Pies look really good but still not far enough in front.

I wish you could turn off certain commentators or pick which commentators you could listen too.  Bruce is just painful to listen to these days.

Wouldn’t it be great having Melb centric commentators for Melb games but also all games haha.

On the radio up here in Brisbane, they were saying the NRL were concerned about the body crashes with no crowd noise, they were worried it would turn parents off having their kids play the game.

The technology cannot be that far away, pick your anchor commentators, pick special comments and then your boundary commentators.  It would easily show who the public wanted to listen too.

I wish they'd increase the volume on the fake crowd and drown out the commentators.  I've watched a lot of old matches recently and the quality of commentating was so much better.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
