Our backyard isn't squeaky clean.

I don't want to give media or anyone else amunition but most of you 40 or over will know who I'm talking about.

There was a much loved indigenous player both by the players and supporters who had a nickname that never sat well with me.This isn't in hindsight.

I hope the club could own it and fix it, this stuff always comes out in the end. I always thought the way Gary Lyon put his hand up as part of the problem was decent!

It wasn't a nickname at the club, it was an incident by G.Lyons during an Eagles game when he abused Chris Lewis who pointed out Charles to him, which Lyon said something along the lines "he understands".   Lyon apologised publicly and acknowledge how wrong it was expressed the same in his book at the time.  It was around the time of the stand by Kraker and the start of the changing culture of the AFL.

I was actually thinking of the Schwarz incident/s, which wasn't a club nickname either as far as I know.

I am staggered that McGuire kept his jobs in the media after calling Adam Goodes King Kong.

If he had said it in the last month he would have been axed for sure.

H.L.is not going to let this go...

I agree, which is ridiculous to think it would be based on when the pitch forks were out or not.

Yes i know. But that’s how it all works. Eddie being the  “Head Honcho” of the Boys Club probably saved his [censored] as well.
I don’t listen to MMM but I imagine they all had a laugh about it when first said, then a week later were seriosly apololgizing and backpedaling

Actually, to his credit, Luke Darcy did not laugh or encourage it at all, he actually pulled him up on it instantly.

its all ok. Collingwood have an integrity unit with a board member co-opted in, so it will all be ok.

I'm pretty sure it's in both of the Goodes' docos, which are both very much worth watching.

Edit - found a part of the transcript:

McGuire: "Get Adam Goodes down for it do you reckon?"

Darcy: "No I wouldn't have thought so, absolutely not."

McGuire: "You can see them doing that can't you?"

Darcy: "Who?"

McGuire: "Goodsey."

Darcy: "What's that?"

McGuire: "You know with the ape thing, the whole thing, I'm just saying the pumping him up and mucking around and all that sort of stuff."

he was a lot worse with Caro, with the 'keep her head under water' comment, which was specifically hateful.

and says a hell of a lot for both Eddie and Caro's 'moral fibre' that they now sell out and sit next to each other on footy classified. the almighty dollar overrides the conscience.

Good point. I had forgotten his comments about Wilson. The evidence mounts, but nothing is ever done

Interesting that some anonymous person on social media attacks a player and it's media coverage for days on end. But the coverage of cultural issues embedded at the biggest club in the land is barely touched upon, relative. Anyone that has sat in corporate boxes during a Pies or Richmond home game with club heavyweights will know just how engrained racism, sexism and homophobia is in their cultures. And board members inn an earshot just letting it slide.

Yes. thought Darcy was trying quite hard to give Eddie the hint to shut it down.

I saw a game at Victoria park during which the Filth were actually spitting on, throwing beer  and swearing at the fullback who was trying to  stay back on his man and had to watch the play upfield. It was one of the last games  ever at Vic Park, mercifully.

Although Eddie has said some totally stupid things I don't think he is a racist. He's just a Boof head. Harry and Goodes have made their point but I doubt they have experienced anything near what say Sid Jackson would have endured in his time. I've had the pleasure of meeting Sid Jackson(twice)and he was an absolute gent.

I think society is more civilised in some ways and less civilised in others. In general, standards of human behaviour have declined  as has the emotional strength of individual men. "Sticks and Stones" was the way I was brought up but then again I love giving and receiving insults. The generation younger than me are far more sensitive to words.

I've got no issue with black people pointing out racist behaviour. Having said that White woketivism is cringey.#Black Lives Matter is a total crock and #Take a Knee is also.Police brutality is one issue that has now been conflated into a number of American issues. Having said that ,H has issues that are nothing to do with Eddie or the Filth.

You've got no issue with people pointing out a poor free kick, but heaven forbid anyone boo the umpires when the tally is 23-7?

Urgh, reading that is just cringe worthy. Darcy isn't even subtle about it, that Eddie keeps his job after that and so much more is disgusting.

By that token, Waleed Aly should have been sacked many times because I disagree with most of his crafted speech and deliberate false assertions. In fact, you could sack most radio people based on dumb comments.

How did we get to the point where we think it's ok to  take peoples jobs away for something they said? It happens nearly every week.

I realise Eddie probably has plenty of income so it's not such a blow to him but the culture of "cancelling" is the start of something more sinister.

Who arbitrates this Cancelling? Is it the CEO of a beer company or some other major sponsor-perhaps a bookmaker?   Are ALL men really responsible when a woman dies from domestic violence? I struggle with some of these leaps of logic.Modern wisdom leaves me feeling flat.

If I hadn't read through to your last paragraph I was going to contact the Police and report a case of identity theft.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
