You realize you just contradicted yourself yeah?

How?

In your initial post, you said that we could see Gawn and no Weid/Brown, with Tomlinson being back-up.  I want Weid, a recognised back-up, in so that we don't have to take Tomlinson out of his best position.

I've highlighted that Carlton did that last night (ie played without a recognised back-up ruck) and it hurt them.

If you bothered to listen, Tommy Mc said Spargo is one the best kicks, kicking into the 50

So he will be link between mids and fwds

Thanks - I haven't seen that quote, but I saw Spargo deliver into forward 50 under pressure a few times in the 2018 finals series at the G and given his age at the time saw  potential. I also think he is a good decision maker.

Clearly Goodwin sees that his pre-season has earnt him a spot which is good to see (effort and results will be rewarded etc.. is the message here.)

You said it 'bit Carlton on the [censored]' when the fact is they won more of the ball, scored more and outscored their opposition once Kreuzer went off (which you admitted to saying they were more competitive).

Your statement is not factual.

I believe in Charlie Spargo.

As do I

Watching Richmond last night a large majority of the delivery to their key fwds or mid sized fwds were from smaller players.

Spargo doesn't need to jailing goals (always a bonus). He needs to be hitting up forward on the [censored] and applying pressure i50.

ANB has to do the same. Although his kick is questionable at times...

Hit outs;

Richmond - 41 to Carlton - 26

Clearances;

Richmond - 30 to Carlton - 33

If you watched the game, you would've seen Cripps almost single-handedly dragged them back in to that match with 10 individual clearances.

Facts enough?

I watched the game mate.

Again, you said it 'bit Carlton the [censored]'.

Last time I checked, games were decided by scores not hitouts. Carlton outscored the reigning premiers in the second half. How exactly is that being 'bit on the [censored]'?

Actually, don't answer. I'm gonna unsubscribe here as it's going nowhere. You're right, and me, the facts, stats and Adam Simpson are all wrong. Cheers.

Ha, you're right, games are decided by scores, and Richmond's was more than Carlton's.

Cripps needed to shark the opposition ruck to drag his team back in to the game.  Imagine if Carlton had a decent ruckman so they could run their own plays?

And your last line?  Please.  Are you a child?  My opinion is different to yours, and I have actually proven with facts that my view makes sense.  Let's see what Simpson does this year.  Bet Nik Nat + 1 is his preferred line up.  We shall reassess at the end of the season.

Carlton had a 'decent ruckman' in the first quarter when they were outscored 2 goals to 7.

Also,  unsubscribe.

When are the final teams announced?

We'll definitely be going small, as we rightly should. Bench of Pickett, Bedford, Lockhart and one tall. Could potentially go with 4 smalls on the bench. If Gawn gets injured or tired, we can have one of Tomlinson, TMac or OMac ruck. Pure rucks are the least important role on the ground, all they need to do is negate. Good midfielders will rove to the tap of whoever. I'd actually like to see us go in with a completely short bench and try to run the bastards off their feet. No long bombs into their backline, just run and handball. It's our only chance, as on paper they have us beat.

Conditions totally different but not dissimilar to how Port last season and Bombers in 2018 dismantled them and dominated the ground balls

My concern with the above names are;

TMc (the player that many believe is our MVP) - taking our only tall out of our forward line to play ruck will just play in to the hands of the Eagles' key defenders

Tomlinson - we traded him to play wing, which is an area that we need he and Langdon to play as much as possible for as long as possible

OMc - will be required to play on either Darling or JK.

That's why, for me, it's a no-brainer that Weid plays on Sunday.

Thanks - I haven't seen that quote

Unsurprising given the 'quote" was snippet of a 20 minute bit of commentary TMac did during the North Melbourne dees scratch match that was live streamed.

And to find the replay you had to search around on youtube or follow the helpful embedded videos on on that games thread. Which only trainspotters would do (i am one - even went to the game!).

Satyriconhome's snide  and dismissive 'if you bothered to listen' comment is yet another example of his frequent rudeness to fellow posters.

So who’s going to relieve Gawn in 30 degree heat?

afl.com.au still doesn't have the final teams!

Has Mitch Brown ever taken a hit out?

Tomlinson

Brown is a bit of a surprise. I thought Weid would get the job. Looks like second ruck will be Brown. He's a better forward so it makes a bit of sense. I'm excited I think we will really take it up to them.

Has anyone got the West Coast team?

Thinking about it more I think T.McDonald will be the second ruck.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

    The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

    The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

    The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
