As far as I’m concerned the only fair thing for everyone (us), would be to cancel the first two rounds and commence the season from round 3.

It’s going to be bizarre to watch. Even as a fan, I wonder if I will still get as invested as I normally do without the roar of the crowd when something happens. We will find out I guess.

Anzac 2 million dollars loss, will the AFL pay the 10 loss from crowd receipts, the debts are going to send this club back 50 years

Maybe we should just, you know, win the premiership and reap all the associated dividends from that. ?

Looks like I’m gonna have to break into Optus.

Sad, but appropriate.

It's going to be quite the challenge to keep some semblance of a viable fixture going.

At ABSOLUTE BEST we will see routine removals of entire teams from competition for two rounds minimum on each occasion.

On the other hand, the exceptional circumstances and not having to plan for crowds will make it a bit easier to improvise.

I think already the planners would have to accept the idea that 22 full rounds worth of games is just a non-option, and aim for the best possible result of all teams playing each other once, but even that is a stretch.

I expect we'll see the minimum possible amount of flying too.

Sorry to be flippant for a moment, but I would guess all the fixture planners at AFL HQ right now are feeling a bit overheated, fatigued and running a serious headache.

AFL will have to pony up for clubs shortfall in gate receipts (they have been doing this in their rescue payments each year for St Kilda etc)- I suspect ANZAC day will be lost to us (if the season has not been cancelled), but things should be good for QB.  If not, there are much bigger fish in the pan than AFL games (the economy will be stuffed, unemployment will be through the roof, businesses will be bankrupt...)

MCG should use canned cheering for goals to us, and silence for the opposition.

By round 3 weather colder virus will just be getting started, there will be no crowds until September

Statistically one player in the comp is almost certain to get infected in the next two weeks. That puts that team out. What happens to the points etc relative to the rest of the comp.

Get ready for the first five rounds or so to be declared null and void along with the resultant outcry

Oi! Bought flights from Syd there  in Nov when fixture came out. Fought tooth and nail to get tickets. Oh well. We live in unprecedented times. Eagles won't cope without home ground feral supporters and umpires.

Stats show that the Eagles do very well from the umps in home games (and not so well in away games to be fair). The most accepted explanation is that umpires are influenced subconsciously by the partisan crowd.

Or they have WA umpires like Dean Marghetts who blatantly favours them. If it was just the crowd why don't the Dockers get afforded the same luxuries?

You need some luck to win the flag

My mfcss is telling me we get off to a flyer on top of the ladder and then the season is called off

OR we break the drought but no one is allowed in to watch it

I'm sure you will, were you invested when we played in Alice Springs or Darwin?

Will the the whole season will be played without crowds, qeens birthday is now a 2 million dollar loss

Actually the tv audience, if played in front of an empty stadium, will be maximum numbers.  We just won't get gate takings.   But we will get huge ratings.

I think we have to be prepared for the whole season to be cancelled. This situation changes by the day and by the minute. It is depressing, but AFL 2020 may be a write off. We are in uncertain times. Never experienced anything like this before. Very disturbing to read about the hospitals in Italy deciding who should be treated and who should not, according to age or health, and they have one of the best health systems in Europe. It feels like we are in a science fiction novel. And not a good one.

What home ground advantage do the eagles have now ???

About the same advantage as us playing the Giants at an empty “G” the following weekend.

Frankly, if there is a 500 rule, each Club should be permitted to allow 150 cheer squad members to add a bit of noise and atmosphere for the tv coverage. Easy to have the nominated attendees tested for Coronavirus at each Club’s expense.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
