Lot to like about today... Several picking themselves for round 1.

Kozzie a certainty

Brown a certainty

Lockhard very close to certainty

Bedford could play early

Rivers looks very good

Brayshaw.. no concerns, rust is quickly disappearing

Bradke gone up another gear

We showed our depth and it looks as if there will be some hard choices picking a 1st 22 come the Eagles game.

Gus is back!

Good preseason hit outs for us. 2 wins from 2 matches while getting game time into some kids and easing some returning players like Brayshaw, Tomlinson, Melksham back in.

Get Gawn and May up and firing and we've got a good team with some depth ready to go.

I think Bedford might be the one Kossie has to win his spot from.

Gee Lockhart looks composed with the ball down back.

Im very impressed with Browns mobility. Almost beating Tomlinson at his own game, plus being able to take marks in front of goal. Many times he worked up on the wing for possesions.

Melksham great first half, Brayshaw great second half. Fritsch, Brown and Spargo played well. Great chase down tackle by Bedford and then that great running goal, superb. Rivers, Sparrow and Jordon show great signs and Bradtke battled manfully in the ruck.

ROLLING BEST 22

B: JETTA, MAY, LEVER

HB: SALEM, O.MCDONALD, HIBBERD

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, TOMLINSON

HF: FRITSCH, T.MCDONALD, VANDENBERG

F: PICKETT, BROWN, MELKSHAM

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: BRAYSHAW, JONES, HARMES, WEIDEMAN

EMERG: LOCKHART, SPARROW, SPARGO, BEDFORD

Any chance we can get our R23 clash against this mob moved to Arden St?

An enjoyable match, looks like competition for spots is fierce. Much to like, J Wagner didn’t get a lot of mentions in the Game day thread, thought he was quite good and steady.

One of the aspects of his game that he does really well is roving the ruck hitouts.  Will be very pleased to see that back in action with Gawn.  Would have added another 4 or so goal to our win over the Crows the other week I recon.

I think our smalls will be the difference at times this year. All showed something today and will be fierce competition for spots.
Brayshaw got better as the game wore on.
kept an eye on Jordan and Sparrow for much of the game. Both seemed to be out of position and chasing more than winning the ball and being creative.

Tomlinson presented well before he was rested and Melksham was at the coal face early on and creating.
Bradtke just gets thrown around but his ruck craft is improving. Needs kilos.

7:13 is hardly a great result but 20 scoring shots is nothing to scoff at.

Our pressure dealing with North’s chipping around game early on was also good to see.

Beer time now.

i put the moz on brayshaw effectively - roasted him (comparisons with tyson!) and then his second half was very good

of those that played, you'd think he, melksham, tomlinson, pickett, and brown are likely round 1 starters

rivers looked very good coming off half back however - lovely kick of the footy - and sparrow looks like nathan jones 2.0

Oscar is a worry dropping chest marks

Confidence still isn't really there at the moment.  He dropped a bit of a sitter last week as well.  Hopefully he can find some confidence again, because when he's on, I think he can make a useful contribution.

I just like winning, any game where we win is great, Last pre season i think we lost nearly everything. We look like a club that has had a plan all pre season, players fir, depth showing.

Im so excited about what we can do this year, we look like a team that enjoyable to watch again. I know its a practice match, and people tend to tell us to relax, but id mych rather be excited about winning a praccy match that a bit worried because we have list games in the pre season.

Club feels good at the moment.

I get that Brown is doing well in the practice matches (but kicking not great) but I don't think he gets a look in when Gawn is back.

2 of T Mac, Weed, LJ and Brown will be up fwd I would think.  We have Trac, Fristch, Melk, up there too

Brown would be last in line for me.  good to have the back up though!

Some great tackling today by Gus, Wagner (I dunno which one) and Lockhart. Good to see them stick.

Brown lacks the ability to ruck. But without wanting a philosophical debate about rucking and roving to the other ruckman, I think his ability to provide a target inside 50 moves him into 2nd place for me with TomMac in 1st.

Saw Harley Bennell at the ground. Biggest takeaway, he looks happy.

massive smile on his face

Corey. I noticed the same thing. He tackled really well today.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

  • PREGAME: Richmond

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
