I recommend that the AFL suspends the first two rounds.

Of course, it’s a co-incidence that we’re drawn to play two of the premiership favourites in those rounds.

and halve the points please !!?

BTW they're both in Australia at the moment.

Tom Hanks! Don’t believe it. Didn’t he spend four years isolated on a desert island?

With everything that is developing as we speak, I won't be surprised if the AFL season is suspended in some form. Once a player has it, that's it. Game over.

NBA season suspended; Rudy Gobert the first player to test positive confirmed

Just days after he made a joke out of the whole thing and was going around touching all the reporters mics and recording equipment to 'prove' it was not a big deal... Yikes.

"At a press conference Monday, Gobert attempted to make a point about overreaction and fear by touching everything in sight before he left. He leaned over and touched all of the microphones and recorders."

Bit of a Lol

AFL will follow suit.

Christ its going to be a boring year.

This whole thing is utterly insane.

To all those that downplay the number of people infected: this figure from WHO pretty much sums it up. Extrapolate this forwards a few weeks and see what you end up with.

Yes - getting the virus will not be a big deal for most people. Yes - much of the panic is needless, ill-informed and counterproductive. But an outbreak like this is unprecedented in modern human history - that's why health professionals are sh*tting themselves. Interesting times ahead.

Strange and confusing times, would be people hesitate to go to the footy in the first 3 rounds if the lockout was announced from R4 onwards?

Not sure if anyone on here is in panic mode yet but maybe some have altered their thinking on their approach to everyday living.

The cash actually goes to the hosting team. In this case St Kilda. Will be interesting to see if Saints receive compensation. Loss of the million plus they get for playing in China would put a big hole in their revenue budget

With over $6 mill loss each year what's smother mill the AFL will cover this leaking Clubp

So an infected person went to the MCG Sunday for the cricket grand final, there seems to be updates every 10 minutes on this so with footy still a week away I will be very surprised if crowds are allowed to go

Trump has done everything in his power to stay ahead of things including the first mandatory quarantine in the US in half a century.

But orange man bad, am I right?

I think Smokey summed it up quite well.

But I would be interested in the bolded part... could you please provide me with a link to something that provides a little more info on this mandatory quarantine, as I have google searched and found nothing at all. Maybe I'm just not good at googling?

EDIT: I did find this which is hardly an example of staying ahead of things (every country was doing that and it doesn't explain his other later statements that virtually dismissed the virus as nothing too serious)... "In January the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued its first mandatory quarantine in more than half a century, keeping healthy Americans repatriated from Wuhan, China, originally the epicenter of the virus, isolated on an Air Force base for 14 days."

Here is a scenario I see occurring as the reason crowds will be banned before round 1:

Ball is kicked out of bounds into the stands, a fan with the virus picks it up and chucks it back onto the field, the player picks up the ball and recommences play. The ball is now infected with the virus and is being passed from player to player. Potentially, two entire teams could be infected from one ball going out of bounds.

Who knows. But there may be an advantage to being called the Hermit Kingdom.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
