Frost was in the side because May and Lever weren’t, he saw the writing on the wall that if those two were fit he would likely also be behind Oscar because he’s defensively better. 

Good luck to him at Hawthorn but for a club that prides itself on control of the ball and patience I can’t see Frost adding value to that plan unless they have a get out option for Frost to use.

Frost gave us Run and took the game on with his lack of Disposal was still effective Oscar was playing Injured last season which effected his performance I was impressed with him last week in the Practice match however my selection would be Petty he is quick steady and has more skill he will be a real player but need to be out there with May Lever and Neville he will learn fast and can also play Forward

There is an article today about how Hawthorn are changing it up to play on at all costs and move the ball much quicker. Makes sense why they targeted Frost if that is the case. It will be fun to watch.

Yeah, can 100% see what you're saying. The impression I've got so far is that we'll rely more on our disposal to do that than leg speed. We seem to be making the backline a bit more safe and predictable. I think with Salem, Harmes, Hibberd, Lockhart and May (who is actually super quick) all back there we'll be ok for run.

Breaking the zone is fine, its what happens after that which is a problem

I disagree with you on this one @Clint Bizkit, although I liked watching him, he isn't suited to what the program was building. The way I look at Frost was that although he had amazing, seriously amazing closing speed, which looks sexy, he lacked composure with the ball either by hand or by foot. His marking was also hit and miss. 

We want composure out of the backline, which also helps that same backline when one of the backline members turns it over, 30-60 metres up the field.

Frost did not aid that.

Just on Frost, for mine the curiosity is why Clarkson and Co took him.

“This was according to a track watcher – my track water. He goes out and watches the clubs for me and he came back and he came back to me and said Hawthorn is going to play fast in 2020. Alastair Clarkson has just turned this thing on its ear.”

I thought Frost should have been tried on a wing - we were crying out for outside pace last year and it was there - just not in the coach's head.

For Nick Riewoldt to say that he would rather line up on May or Lever, over Frost...confirmed everything for me.

Hawthorn are coming.  Clarko will enjoy the best 4 years of Frost's career, who is reaching a stage in his development whereby he will be able to break more tackles.  Combine that with his speed and line-breaking ability, which we grossly lack and the wise pundits are shaking their heads.  This is Darren Jolly and Stef Martin mark III and IV.

 

BTW, the speed reason is why Paul Roos disagreed with the Tomlinson trade.  Speed kills for us.

 

At Melbourne, there is always the messiah that will save us, and the villain that is the overrated cause of our ills.  It was Watts, then Frost, and inevitably Oscar.

 

I can be positive about one thing:  Richo saying "positive".

Hawk supporters were delusional. I was a Frost fan, but he was horrible on the weekend.

For hopefully the last time ....Frost was one of the poorest endurance athletes on the list and also has poor footy IQ. After about 2 minutes he would've been out on his feet and completely lost. Speed is important on a wing but the most important things of wing play are endurance and positioning. 

Frost is good at one thing and one thing only - when given a clear run at the footy he's very hard to beat. Given the limitations of some of our other defenders I would've liked to have kept him but the salary cap and draft means you can't keep them all.

Frost had only one position Half Back line

cannot turn and no endurance Same as for others Dees fans that wanted him up forward Roos tried that and no good also horrible kick fir goal.

The bigger surprise to me is that we've moved Petty forward (apparently once he's fit) and bought in Mitch Brown for key forward depth but we haven't added any key defensive depth.

It's May, Oscar, Lever and then more third tall options in Smith and Hore. That might be enough for this year but who's up next if Oscar doesn't improve and guys continue to get injuries?

State league key defenders have a decent success rate, I would've liked to add one for some depth and competition. We've still got the Nietschke spot open and I'd be looking for a young developing tall to put some time in to.

No doubt he had a horrible first quarter giving away frees and turning the ball over.

However he did some really nice things after quarter time and will be an asset for Hawthorn.

Seemed like it was right on cue! Oh well that's a big change of tact from Al, will be very interesting to watch. Frost will definitely help with keeping it moving but I always shuddered about what his next move was after he broke the lines.

We both know that Petty and Brown are more than capable of playing down back.

If there was an injury crisis, and let's hope that doesn't eventuate, then both Brown and Petty can be swung into defensive roles without an issue.  Petty has played plenty of footy there while Mitch Brown is the modern day Cam Pedersen who can fill gaps all over the ground.
