When : Friday 21st at 7.10pm

Where: RSEA Park (Moorabbin Oval)

Another Friday night game for the Demons who have defeated fellow finals aspirants, the Kangaroos and the Bulldogs, over the past fortnight. We are in form and playing good, confident football. The Saints on the other hand are an expansion team coming off two losses and who have a percentage hovering around the 50 mark. This has danger game written all over it.

Probably the biggest advantage we will have over the Saints is that our team has had the benefit of four years playing and training together. Even our emerging talent of Hanks, Zanker and Heath (all 20yo or younger) have had at least two years in the system, whilst some of older heads in D. Pearce, O’Dea, Paxman, Downie and Scott have been there since day one. Someone will probably prove me wrong but I wouldn’t be surprised if we have had the most stable list since the launch of AFLW. For that reason alone we should win.

Go Dees

I am going to this game , my first foray into AFLW since the beginning.

Two reasons, to see the spectacle and secondly to return to the ground where I first watched footy in the days of Baldock, Mynott, Ross-Smith, Cooper, Verdun Howell and one of the best full backs I've ever seen, Bob Murray.

Despite exposure to these champs and being a local East Bentleigh boy, I started to follow the dees.

Here's to a big demon win. !!!!

The way the competition is set up makes it extremely difficult for us to play finals if we drop even a single game against an expansion side (and % is likely to be important too).

We're playing good footy though - I'll back us in. Go dees!

MFCSS is kicking in with this game. We should win easily but.......

We are clearly the better side, but not making the most of our scoring chances and inside 50s will hurt us at some point. We need to find a way to take marks within 30 metres of goal instead of blazing away on the run or from set shots further out.

A great way to kick off a weekend of footy for this 'footy starved' Demon fan.  Our experience and  strong form vs StKilda's youth and enthusiasm .......... except that we also have plenty of youth and enthusiasm!  Dees by a fair bit I reckon.

Umpires giving the Saints a very good run. Girls are very wasteful so far.

Poor kicking. We are playing all over them but behind by a point. Should still win but it could be close.

Finding new ways to lose. Forward line terrible.

No such thing as a 50/50.  Saints getting all sorts of frees that better umpires wouldn’t even consider.  Not doing ourselves any favours, and their goal keeper is getting lots of touches.

Is Montagna the worst commentator ever?

Umpiring is atrocious and the clear narrative is for a Saints win.

That's another season [censored] then.

Disgusting effort that has probably cost us finals again. It's just a Melbourne thing. Paxman is a star and Cunningham is a spud.

9 scoring shots to 4. No-one to blame but ourselves.

Anybody surprised?

anybody?

*crickets*

side topic: anybody else struggle with the blue/red combination when the Saints girls were turning in those pride guernseys?

You could see this unfolding all game. Forwards were non existent.

Living the cliche that a Melbourne side will never fail to disappoint. Annoying

Edited by FarNorthernD

That was very disappointing. Wastefulness in the forward half has has been a problem all season.  It cost them tonight!

Bloody hell, so wasteful. Cat Phillips doesn’t play for us anymore ladies. So frustrating watching them bust a gut then turn it over.

Newman’s start to the year hasn’t been great.

Typical. Just typical. We dominated that game but found an excuse to lose. We are the worst kicking side in womens footy and that is not just at goal but around the ground.

The worst standard of football I’ve ever seen.

And they get paid for it.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
