The Preseason Documentary To Hell and Back: Episode 2 Premieres tonight (16/2/20) @ 7:00pm.

This 12-minute episode, which begins on Day 1 of the Dees’ pre-season campaign, will give fans a look at the boys’ training schedule, as led by performance manager Darren Burgess.

While the Demons get to work in November, 35-gamer Aaron vandenBerg is still stuck on the sidelines due to his on-going foot injury.

The 27-year-old opens up about how he monitors the pain and shows how he prepares his body for a session in the rehab group.

In other news, former Docker and Sun, Harley Bennell, meets Simon Goodwin and the Melbourne recruiting team for the very first time.

We sit in on Bennell’s meeting at AAMI Park, as he looks to earn one last chance at AFL level.

Made the mistake of watching the 40 second snippet of this episode on the AFL website. Only 6.5 hrs to go.

I'm really looking forward to this!  The insights in relation to Harley and due diligence by the Club (currently on AFL website) are outstanding.

Seems to be an emphasis on Harley Bennell’s attempted comeback -

‘I started tearing up’: Harley Bennell opens up on tough 2019 Grand Final experience.

Incidentally, I  caught up with the tail end of a discussion on HB on SEN and the commentator said that if he’s successful in getting back to full fitness (I know there’s no guarantees there) Bennell would be the recruit of the year - a possible All Australian.

Darren Burgess is a very very impressive individual.

That was a great episode btw!

Great episode. Really not what I was expecting when it was announced.

Geez that meeting with Harley was super awkward. Obviously it was a conversation that needed to be had but is was hella awks as my kids would say.

Should we start the petition for more episodes now or next week?

Good episode. Interesting Burgess warned them about doing 36-37km of running coming up the week after the hill sprints and they didn’t clock over those figures once last summer.

I believe there’s 5 episodes in total.

Nah 5 all up I’m pretty sure, each week until the start of the season.

The depth of work in AVB's rehab is amazing. Even to the extent of individual toe workouts with the resistance bands.

Fingers crossed he can play plenty of games this season

That was sensational. I could watch hours and hours of that.

Such a fantastic insight into the personality and characters of the players, coaches and the club in general.

Its amazing really how simplistic it all is. For some reason a big part of me thinks that the club operates like a big corporate and would speak that way but it’s really just a footy club with players and admin that attend and operate 7 days a week.

I think it's easy to get sucked into the hype as new season draws near, ecspecially when your shown positive footage. However, a point Darren raised in the video is that we never ran to any level close last pre season to what we are this pre season. Shows how far back we were and how much futher we got to go.

I really liked the bit about the importance of maintaining a positive body language, demeanour when you are  totally 'stuffed'.  Don't give the opposition an inch .....

And it's 80% ball work, they are getting fitter using footballs.

Crazy idea...

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
