I know Ive kicked this can down the road before, but the VAFA ground in Glenhuntly Rd is under utilised by both VAFA and Cricket Victoria. If compromises were put in place this would be a fantastic training ground. MCG sized, new facilities, properly fenced, close to bus, tram and trains. It is in the City of Bayside not Port Phillip which should help politically. 

A bunch of us use it regularly and like Albert Park, you can generally get on.I should mention

that at Albert Park, because of all the sport currently taking place, we have moved the show to oval number 19.

I am proud to say I wanted to call it Nutbush.

Football club support can and does cross party political lines, what is important is lobbying, constant lobbying.

MFC members should be trying to lobby local politicians in Caulfield and nearby areas from all tiers of government - Local Government, State & Federal.

All good WYL. But my point was, Kerry never tried to read the room either. IIRC when KP got in the lift, you got out and waited for another. I met Joe and he treated me ok. Kicked the footy with his kids occasionally down at Alma Park.

Kerry was very good at reading the Room, don’t fool yourself Damo.

There was a reason he was so successful and others merely mimmicked him. 

Joe was an enigma, to this day he has been almost silent. I thank him for donating the money he did, but the problem with that, was, he then ran a one man board. 
there was no long term projection, there was no supporter participation. 
We collectively could have taken The Lexus Center, but Joe wouldn’t see it. 
In 2023, 25 years later we are still fractured as a club in terms of infrastructure.

Not bagging Casey as the facilities are great for a suburban ground & it’s yielded flags for both teams… but it’s no we’re near the other afl elite top clubs … who’s idea was it to go 50-60 minutes away from our so called heartland … VFA port melb ripe for development with 18 flags & same theme song & a population growth of 20k…& under 20mins from the mcg

Not to my recollection. Olympic Park came after Coll took what is now Lexus Centre.

Ridiculing the work Joe Gutnik did in saving the club is almost treason. We had no finances at the time to invest in the old olympic swimming pool, the books from then show that. He stopped the merger and put in the single biggest donation the club is ever likely to see. Sure, he wasn't perfect, didnt fit the typical footy following stereotype, perhaps ran it his corperate way, which may have been required at the time. And the real estate investments he made are the reason we are now financially independent. But posters claiming to know the inner machinations of the board from that era without being on the board are just big-noting contrarians spreading hearsay.

Not saying that about you Diamond Jim, btw. Just a follow on from previous comments to yours

Joe saved the club, the fact he didn't take up some land is secondary in my opinion. Atleast we still have a club. I am more concerned by the fact that a number of other boards haven't been able to do what they promised

Especially the current board, led by a person noted throught her career for getting big projects off the ground

He was head of the Athletics VIC board, but was certainly acting in Collingwood’s best interests with his decisions. Had AV pay for the rebuild then quickly relocate once the new home was complete. Nothing suss there.

Collectively we spent years trying to achieve the impossible before it finally clicked that near the G is impossible. Now we are trying to get to Caulfield. That is a decade away if at all.  JC would struggle trying to find us a home.
