i guess it depends on what you consider central. 15 mins by train from the CBD is central in my book

If that development is well under way and we havent announced anything then i'd be surprised if we are part of it?

If so that leaves Gosch's and given the restrictions/limitations on building anything substantial in and around that precinct i would think whatever is announced is likely to be pretty modest at best.

The actual development of the racecourse has not, to my knowledge, started or received final approval from the authorities. There has been development of the area that was once open space and car parking between the racecourse and the railway line where some ugly high rise units have emerged out of the ground along with a shopping precinct based around a large Coles Supermarket.

The development is still a watch this space for the future.

I’m not a religious person but I pray the club has the vision to nominate the Caulfield Racecourse as the preferred location. An almost exclusive facility that is in supporter heartland. Public transport on the doorstep, potential partnership opportunities with Monash University with physio or medical. Room to build an elite facility now with ability to expand in the future. Can have a MCG sized oval to train on with another oval that we can interchange to replicate dimensions of away grounds eg GMHBA. Too much politics and red tape at Gosch’s and is limited in use and potential. Please Melbourne FC get it done!!!!!

I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t want Caulfield…? Goschs all the way. The visibility is infinitely better, there is enough room for new training facilities and admin to be added on to aami and we seem to be doing fine on the freshly redeveloped ground at goschs. I live in the north side and every dees supporter I know just about lives here. The south east ain’t the heartland of our young supporters and while it is 15 mins by train from flinders it’s not that easy to get to at all from north or west, I wouldn’t call it central at all.

No, you're not the only one.  MCG is our spiritual home, and Gosch's Paddock is just a hope, step and jump away from it.  I disagree though that the south east is not the heartland of supporters.  My dad grew up in Brighton, when he grew up the kids were either Melbourne or St Kilda supporters in that area.

Caulfield is the better location. As soon as we get something happening at Gosch's (dream on!!) another training facilities arms race will break out and our shiny new Gosch's playground will seem old and tattered before it's even finished.

We don't want to catch up to the rear of the pack, we want to leapfrog it, and Caulfield has a zillion times more potential than Gosch's.

Well it's as central as we're gonna get. For what we want anyway.

Exactly......Gosch's is only ever going to be a compromise.  Ground is controlled by MOPT, so when we can train on it, the maintenance of the ground and MOST importantly restricted with lighting means it can only be second best.  And we have to share facilities with Storm, Rebels & Victory ( gyms, rehab facilities, physio rooms, pools).

And by the way, we also have a womens team these days.  They need to be accomodated, not just stuck away in the corner as a second thought.

Isn’t the intention that the women’s team have Casey as their dedicated base? Which would see them ahead and apart?

My opinions on this are well worn so I… will… continue that.

Public transport? Centrality to Brunton Ave? Space and spec for admin?

What are you valuing here? The ability of the random punter to do training reports? The ‘historical geographic’ importance of an area? The gormless need to have the FD and the Admin in the same building?

This is a training and high performance facility. Of which the intent should be building athletes and driving styles of play that keep the AFLM/AFLW (maybe) playing groups competing for flags. That’s it.

You look like a sheep walking on its hind legs when you argue points that don’t support that goal.

When the new metro tunnel is completed in the the next 18 months or so, you will be able to do Arden Street Station or Parkville Station to Caulfield in about 20 minutes or less (direct).

For those that say Caulfield is not central, the current demographic centre of Melbourne is located just a few kms north of Caulfield in neighbouring Malvern.

Caulfield is a sensible location but with everything the devil is in the detail. As a minimum it will solve the issue of close location of admin and football but will it deliver what is considered the norm for new training facilities.. second oval, pool gym, undercover training area etc etc

My guess is we will be sharing a lot of these. The other issue is cost. Who pays. Do we get a peppercorn rental and we develop the facilities. Long term these are important issues as they impact our ability to compete financially with other clubs all of which have different arrangements.

Great to see some movement

So its a 27 min drive right now on the maps app from Flinders st to the Caulfield track, would be 40min plus at peak time l would suggest. Not central but obviously better than Casey, Moorabbin, Dingley, Tulla etc. Makes it hard to pop into training if your not already in the sth east, acknowledging many mfc supporters are

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
