I notice the Fed Govt budget has allocated $13.6mill to the NRL St George Illawarra Dragons for a new high performance centre. Might give an idea of what we can hopefully expect. Except we are a bigger organisation than an NRL team and it creates a much needed facility for the local precinct. Can't remember if it's a Federal Labor or Liberal electorate.

Think you'll find the Dragons are in a dyed in the wool Labor electorate.

Caulfield..... not so much

To much time spent on this racetrack folly, how about directing some energy to our core business.

Some might suggest having a home IS core business 🤔  ;)

Gotta have a proper home ground with both our football department and administration under the same roof.

James Hird mentioned it makes the Melbourne Demons unappealing to players who are looking at their options.

It seems the issue of driving between Gosch's Paddock and Casey Fields does exist.

Our next CEO will need to have this as one of their top priorities to get the Home Base built at the Caulfield Racecourse.

Fingers crossed we hear some good news about the progress of our Home Base over the next few months. 🤞🏻

Seriously, how would a goal umpire train.

Couldn’t she just turn up in her shorts and tracks.

What insanity is this.?

Still have to practice taking out the pencil and paper from the pocket, holding it at arms length in front of the body and adding a stroke for a score.

Then putting the paper and pencil back in the pocket and looking like you have achieved a monumental task.

I hope that is a joke.

Females are as entitled as men to go tot the loo, shower and change clothes and not have to wait until they are all out of the change rooms.

Maybe they should let her use the change rooms first!

Update: Strong progress made on key stakeholder buy in and internal funding guarantees however some funding models will need to be re-tendered post the federal election.

Does the fed election result have a bearing on the outcome ?

Yes.

There has been some funding approved at federal level for the project which would need to be re-tendered should the the coalition form government.

which looks increasingly unlikely

when can we expect any actual announcements @Dannyz ?

A win, Trac coming forward with his love for the club and now some good news on the training ground front...... Im not sure I can absorb any more good news!

My educated guess would be a vague update in the next 4 weeks followed by a more thorough update around June/ July.

Righto, so no re-tendering will be required. 👌

Well it's looking likely that they won't... Fingers crossed.

How would a Goal Umpire train?

Back in the 90's I used to work with a goalie and i can tell you he was very fit. Most of the training was done after work and in winter this meant after dark so you need a ground with good lighting. The goalie training consisted of sprinting to position, signaling, waving and folding flags etc, over and over again. And standing bolt upright.

This is good news. Goal umpires train by bending backwards and looking up at the sky with arms outstretched.

Yep thats one of them x 10

John Kanga part of the buy-in? Heard him last week on RSN not sounding supportive at all.

So vote Labor for a quicker outcome on our training base?

I’m heading to the early voting centre now 😝

I’ll answer this as a paid Goal umpire in an association covering three leagues - we have running training (including sprinting) and use a ball machine to practice correct positioning to ensure alignment with ball trajectory and or when/if the ball fully crosses the line. Most umpires don’t turn up to training or games in their uniforms. Many have to change from School uniforms or work attire.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
